Yeah college football takes a lot of projection because of stuff like this. Randy Moss could have played in that Tennessee offense, put up big stats and you shouldn't just write him off because his route tree in the offense wasn't diverse enough. You can also have an elite level talent at receiver or TE get stuck in a college offense that is geared completely around running the ball. They might not have stellar stats but if you watch them they are still a stellar player. You'll see the same thing with a guy like Laporta. Iowa runs the worst offense I think I've seen in college football. Play calling is awful, QB play is awful, O-line was awful and they had almost nothing at WR. Dude still put up stats despite all that. I wonder what he would have done in say Utah's offense.
Another great example we can see because of the transfer portal is Charlie Jones at Purdue. He would have never been drafted out of Iowa. Maxed out at like 300 receiving yards. He goes to Purdue and suddenly you have 1,361 receiving yards. Had he stayed at Iowa, he probably would have had 300 receiving yards again. Not his fault, just played in a shit offense.
