The back to back playoff appearances and back to back double digit win seasons is a significant difference compared to Garrett.

You're also leaving out the fact that Garrett went 8-8 and missed the playoffs his first 3 years, that was the rut that he barely squeaked his way out of. McCarthy on the other hand has come in and accomplished something that this dysfunctional organization hadn't done in 15 and 25 years respectively within his first 3 years.

That's meaningful and significantly better than what we got out of Garrett.

Maybe "quandary" is a better word. I still don't know what McCarthy does, exactly. Call the plays? No. Coach up the defense? No. Get in players' faces when they fuck up? No. Work the refs to our advantage? No. He's a passive onlooker, like Switzer. On Hard Knocks, he was about as inspirational as Bob Dole. This is probably moot now, but I'd replace him with a coordinator who's had success without an elite QB. Major exception: Moore & Rush.

After three years where the first year was a cluster of Covid, not allowed the normal extras a new coach would get, injuries, and a historically bad defense followed by two 12-win seasons?

We've been down this road with Wade, who got us to the playoffs in 2007 and 2009. Got his extension and was gone less than a year later. Like Mike, he was an affable guy. Amounted to nothing.

Yeah I mean calling plays on GameDay is only a fraction of what happens. I'm sure that McCarthy has a lot of input in the offense. He manages the whole team and coaches. It's not just about calling plays.

Coaches coach with different personnel strategies much like we manage our own employees differently. One person is not like the next and need to be handled differently. I'm sure it's a lot of work.

Parcells did not have the stones to carry out his contract. He was miserable, couldn't find a good cannoli and he really wasn't driven to win another SB at all costs.
