Yeah the team needs to be careful about that otherwise teams are going to just focus on Pollard if he is in the game. They need to start using him as a decoy on some of that stuff. Fake it to Pollard and go the opposite direction.
How Moore can kind of iteratively design things around Pollard will be a big litmus test, I'm not optimistic.

Or just move Smith back to LG where he was expected to play this year. Of course, that would delay his progress as a LT, so there's a dilemma here.

Either way but Peters was supposed to start at OG a year or two ago for either the Bears or Eagles but had to move to LT because of an injury or something.

So I think he can definitely play LG even though it's not his customary position.

So what would you guys do with Peters and Smith once Peters is ready? Do you move Smith to G and play Peters at LT?

That's what I always expected, but I didn't expect Smith to play this well this soon. I thought he'd struggle at times, but that hasn't happened. I guess you could still do it, but now I'd almost hate to slow his development .

Peters at G sounds fine, but I don't know that he wants to play that anymore at his age.

Yea, Peters has said he's fine playing OG, assuming he looks decent in practice that is 100% what I'd do since Farniok is very average.

There's no reason a guy as strong and experienced as Peters can't figure it out and I'd like to keep Smith at LT just to speed up his learning curve and truly discern whether or not he's the long term answer.

If moved to guard, I just wonder if he can pull and get downfield.

Maybe although he looked fine getting downfield last year from what I watched, although you never know when a guy is 40. But one thing I know for damn sure if Farniok isn't killing it in any form or fashion, so might as well see what Peters has once he's ready to go.

The real question would be if McGovern were healthy and playing relatively well, but since the decision is Farniok vs. Peters for at least a few more weeks, I think you have to go Peters.

This is the answer.

Even if Peters doesn't work at guard I'd rather just roll with Farniok and then McGovern whenever he comes back, and leave Peters on the bench as the swing tackle.

I like putting Peters at LG with Smith next to him.

Was this Parsons best game overall?

This is off top of my head
  • 2 official sacks
  • 1 pressure leading to LVE sack
  • 3 false starts lined up against Parsons
  • 2 hurries leading to incompletions

Seemed higher to me, recalling one 3 and out series, where 3 straight Zeke touches.

They ran 67 plays total. If we subtract Pollard's 24 snaps that gives Zeke about 43.

Zeke had 15 rushes and 2 targets. So 17 total out of 43.

And they could do that. Maybe you just leave well enough alone if things are going okay and give Peters plenty of time to make sure he's ready to play. Maybe you even think he may not have 15 games in him at age 40 and let the picture develop a little more.

I dunno. Good problem to have though. Pretty amazing two weeks ago we were worried about Smith at LT and now that's not even a concern. Great draft pick.

Yep. I honestly think they screwed this whole thing up because I don't think they really prepared him properly, but he's good enough that he bailed them out.

Yea I don't want to move Smith from LT unless he starts tanking at some point, and that might even include when Tyron is back.

It would make some sense to move him to LG if you're thinking Tyron eventually comes back and you want Tyron at LT and Tyler at LG in that scenario, but I would worry about that when it happens and prioritize Tyler's continued development at LT for now.

Worst case scenario you roll with Peters or McGovern at LG with Tyler on the bench, but that's only if Tyron comes back playing lights out and/or if Tyler starts to struggle.

Also, yesterday was another example of the quality that McCarthy does bring as a football coach and why I think he doesn't get enough credit.

I get that he's not Bill belichick or Andy Reid or Sean McVay, but he's a solid NFL head coach.

He won another game with a backup quarterback and the time against the AFC representative in the SB.

My guess is he's won more games with the backup quarterback in his just over 2 seasons here than Garrett won altogether between 2011 to 2019.

And that's no coincidence. The way the offense comes out and at least looks serviceable with average as best talent behind center is because that's when McCarthy is most involved with the offense.

Whether it's game planning, practicing, and the decision-making on game day, this is when McCarthy most gets involved with the offense.

Now just imagine how much better the unit will be if they just let him.....oh, I don't know.....coach it himself?

Crazy idea, I know.
