Yes they are taking a disc out and fusing two vertebrae together eliminating the disc
Yeah I mean if he comes back full strength it's a huge get. If he doesn't, you burned a fifth round pick. In the fifth you're taking a shot on talent that may or may not be good enough. We aren't taking a shot on talent with this pick, the talent is easy with him, the risk is on the injury.

Anyone know which disc was eliminated? Lower, middle or upper?

So I know the Cowboys say they have experience with this surgery with one of their own players and had great success with it. Out of curiosity does anyone know who that is? If he can be back for half his rookie season that would be huge. I think they are being optimistic but supposedly it's a 6 month injury.

Tyron had it I think.

Shades of Jaylon Smith, but taken in a much more appropriate spot.

• While we’re there, LSU’s Damone Clark was another player whose stock plummeted over the last few months for medical reasons. Doctors at the combine caught a back issue when he told them of problems he’d had with stingers, and it was determined that he should get disc fusion surgery. At that point, Clark was expected to be drafted on Friday night, somewhere in the second or third round.

But the back surgery may knock him out for his entire rookie season, and that was enough to knock him all the way down to the fifth round, where Dallas scooped him up.

He is a really fun player to watch. I just try not to watch too much and get excited because I know there is a chance that he is never that type of player again. I realize he could be. This isn't like watching Jaylon Smith's college highlights and thinking he will return to that form. But spine issues are something that makes me nervous in just assuming he will be back to normal in 6 months. If all he does is miss half a season and we get this player in the NFL? That's a huge get. You don't draft a guy because of the impact he will have for the first half of his rookie season. You draft a guy for the totality of what he can do for your franchise. Especially outside of the first round.

Philly is so happy because they got a steal in the draft with Naobi Dean but if Clark can come back and be 100% healthy this will be considered the STEAL of the draft. He is over 6'2, around 239lbs and run a 4.5?

I liked Dean as well but at the end of the day some of his critics may be correct…Jordan Davis commanded so much respect, all he has to do is see ball, get ball. Clark was much more productive tackling and he did not have the benefit of Godzilla at nose tackle.

And he'll be behind Davis in Philly, but not the other 3 first rounders Georgia had on their DL.

Or the 1st round LB playing next to him.

It's not an exaggeration to say that the Georgia DL may have been the best ever in college football history.

Carter is probably a better prospect than any of these guys.

Carter was probably the best player on that Dline. That's kind of scary.

So what are you saying? Howie Roseman bringing in Godzilla and Dean is nothing to be worried about?

I gotta tell ya, I am getting a little confused by the messages. We are going to be big time bullies and go more power with the OL and yet we have signed the UDFAs who are both underpowered. This was the excuse not to draft Linderbaum.

They better have got this shit right with Biadasz or the Farniok evaluation better be right.

If not we should be offering Billy Price as much money as he wants.

Sometimes there is a disconnect between what teams think of a player and what the media thinks of a player. Clearly the media had a much higher opinion of Dean than teams actually did. On draft day we tend to find this stuff out. Teams aren't stupid. They didn't pass on Dean for no reason.

Clark is bigger, faster, had twice as many tackles, more TFLs and only half a sack less than Dean. Stats aren't everything but maybe Dean was more hype than actual substance.

Were there better options in the UDFA market? I mean there is a bit of difference between taking on a flier like that or using a first round pick.

At least the guys we signed weren't third team Big Ten centers like a certain shitty kid from Nebraska taken in the second round...

I am not challenging the options. Just saying they quite honestly comfortable with setting a camp battle. I guess I better watch me some more Farniok.

Yeah I would have drafted a day three guard that I could toy with playing center. No idea why Salyer went so late but I would have definitely taken him and seen if he could play center or push McGovern.
