Personally I'm not worried about our defense at all. Gut feeling tells me our offense is going to be a serious problem.
Im expecting the defense to take a step forward from last year. The offense needs to find itself and prove it can function against defenses outside the NFC East.

I'm worried about both sides of the ball. I don't think the defense was as good as its numbers indicated and I don't see the offense being better without Cooper. We know they're still going to lean on Elliott way too much, and I'm afraid Dak has already peaked.

Funny thing is, for the first time in a long time I actually like a bunch of our young players. But I think there are too many holes and not the right kind of vet leadership.

I don't think the defense will be any worse than last year. We didn't have Lawrence, Gregory and Parsons for most of the season anyway. I actually thought Kazee kind of blew a lot of deep coverages. And I think guys like Bossman, Osa and Golston will be better going into year two. All while these guys were learning a new system last season. So if you ask me if I'm worried about the defense I'd say not any more than I was worried about it last year. They should get better and even if turnovers go down they should improve in other areas.

But the offense yikes. They are older and less talented at 3 starting positions. The draft will help but other than Dak being a year removed from the big injury I see no reason to be optimistic they will be as good as last year. I know the draft will help but that's a wait and see at this point. We will probably draft a guard and upgrade LG. But can we improve on offense with any other rookies? I doubt it. A rookie WR isn't going to make the receiving Corp better. Steele may be a wash at RT but our depth took a serious hit. And even then Tyron Smith is starting to decline.

Basically I'm really worried the offense could take a massive step backwards. I don't see it improving until 2023 when maybe some draft picks kick in, Zeke moves on and we can kind of change this thing over. This is the problem when you don't use free agency. There is a lag between drafting players and them actually having a big impact. As soon as one side of the ball is fixed the other starts to fall apart.

DCC Poll Time:
Do we consider Dante Fowler to fall under the Jerruh M.O. for former Top 20 pick reclamation project, ala Ryan Leaf, Alex Barron, Pac Man, McFadden, Rolando McClain?

Jerruh signs said bust as a starter, thinking we can revitalize their career and get a blue chip talent at a bargain price, only to be duped again when the inevitable failure was obvious to everyone else?

This M.O. is not to be confused with signing the ex-Pro Bowler with suspension, criminal or locker room distraction history and thinking our support system and the honor of donning The Star will straighten out the player.

Nah, he's just a cheap body who was once drafted high so he once had potential. I think he's more like Robert Quinn than PacMan or McClain.

I don't, I don't even think they are counting on him as a starter. Armstrong is going to be your starting DE. They are just hoping he can provide pass rush help on subpackages which maybe he can and maybe he can't. Fowler still shows speed and burst but man the guy still looks kind of weak to me.

He's a fine rotational guy, if we still had Gregory or draft a guy like Karlaftis I'd feel really good about him as our 3rd/4th edge rusher. But right now he's our 2nd/3rd edge rusher, which definitely isn't great.

Based on what? They went from Gregory to Fowler, which is a huge downgrade, they're likely losing Kazee and Neal (not super huge losses but they haven't replaced them yet either), and haven't really added anyone.

I don't see an improvement at all.

They could be better due to internal improvement, another year under Quinn, so on and so forth, but ultimately I think we'll probably get a roughly similar defense with maybe 20% less turnovers.

I look at it as they went from Gregory to Armstrong, and while Gregory is better than Armstrong, Gregory is never consistent and reliable/available. He teases with his ability, but has never had more than 6 sacks in a season. I can get 6 sacks with Armstrong and Fowler.
