Stringing this thought out, would you be in support of going for two point conversions in the first Qtr

It depends on the game situation. 2 pointers are a little different because the payoff is only 1 point. The payoff going for it on 4th down is potentially 7 points.

Also 2 point conversion attempts are harder because you're usually dealing with a much smaller field. The defense by definition is bunched up near the line of scrimmage.

That's interesting, but I think the Patriots were thrilled to go into halftime with the lead. And I think the strategy against our offense, if you don't have a prolific offense yourself (and maybe even if you do), is to shorten the game.

So I don't think I disagree with them taking a knee there. Too many things could happen that might give us another crack at scoring.

I think the takeaway here though is that coaches make in game decisions that affect the outcome and every single coach will make decisions that don't work out. You just have to play the percentages as best you can.

Too many people are treating McCarthy's decisions like this is Garrett icing his kicker or something. Let's all relax. The coaching situation in Dallas is about as good as it's been since Parcells, Payton and Zimmer were here.

Even if you disagree with a decision here or there, or you disagree with every single decision he makes, it looks very much like McCarthy's coaching on the whole is going to put up way more Ws than Ls.

For the life of me I can't figure out what the hell people are bitching about.

At some point McCarthy will probably make a controversial decision that backfires and maybe costs us a game. And all the people bitching right now will say, "SEE?!? SEE!?!" Because people want to be right.

But it will be a false prophecy. If a timeline goes to infinity, all events will occur.

But that doesn't erase the fact that it's wiser to play the best odds that you can muster.

Everyone on this earth will be wrong at some point. The frequency and egregiousness is what we should be focused on. And it just isn't there.

On the opponent 40, fine. On our own 34, though? We already got stuffed on 3rd and 1 right before.

You can say that our offense is good enough to make up a 7-0 deficit, worst case scenario, since we have the rest of the game...but then youre admitting our offense is good enough to be patient on subsequent drives to put up points and we don’t need to go for it absolutely now.

It’s not an all-timer horrible decision, but it’s worse than the Bills going for it there at the end
I’m all for being a gambler and trying the 4th and 1 plays. But my problem with Meatball is his choice/decisions never make sense. If you are into analytics, then you know his “analytics” are shit because there’s no rhyme or reason to them. He completely fucked his “I follow analytics” with the 4th and 2 call at his own 34 yard line, along with the strange call to kick a FG from 50 yards out with 3 mins left when a first down practically seals the game with a almost sure thing FG from probably 35 yards out. He just does screwball things IMO.

To be fair had we had better success at those third and 1s and fourth and 1s earlier in the game he probably would have gone for it later in the game. But at some point you have to realize it's not your day in those situations. We were what, 1 for 3 on fourth downs at that point?

The thing that really bothers me is it shouldn't have been 4th and 1 there. We got the first down a play earlier and the refs made up a bullshit holding call. Without that fake hold, we bleed the clock and have a shorter field goal for the win. Of course that field goal kick was ugly so maybe it was best to get the miss out of the way when we did.

That's the other thing.

You can use and should use analytics as a guideline, but you shouldn't be a slave to it. The human element is still extremely important and should always be used as a modifier.

What if your team is tired at that moment? What if the ground is slippery? What if there is wind? What if your RB is banged up? What if your left tackle is out? What if your opponent has an unusually good read on your plays and formations that day?

There are so many variables that affect decisions that you can't account for on a spreadsheet.

Negativity sells and the Cowboys are the most popular team in the most popular sport in the country, so logic would tell you that negativity surrounding the most popular team in the most popular sport would sell.

It's a classic feedback loop exacerbated by social media and reinforced by traditional media.

Basically, social media is toxic and we're all better off ignoring it for the most part, unfortunately the lines between social media and traditional media are blurring very quickly.

Agreed, and it's not just social media either. That dude on ESPN called McCarthy the worst coach on his staff and should be questioned for point shaving. It's lunacy.

What's so concerning for me about McCarthy is that the things we are griping about are the same things that he was criticized for in GB. Right now I will enjoy the ride but Im still wary. At seasons end Im not sure what I would do if it was a choice of McCarthy or Moore.
