Not quite sure I'd put guys like Diggs, Lamb, Gallup, LVE in that out the window category, if we had to start again with a rookie. They're still pretty damn young. Hell, Diggs and Lamb were rookies last year.
You just better nail the rookie pick. Trey Lance may actually be the best at that point because he has the big upside. I don't want to mess around with a Mac Jones type. Or pray Zach Wilson drops. Something about him I like in the right situation with weapons.

But you better at least trade Dak and get some fucking return.

Wilson played nobody and was never pressured his whole college career. And he has a really skinny frame I’m not a fan of

Lance played even less competition. I just can’t see how he jumps that high. Pundits must be bored.

I’d take Mac Jones over everyone but Fields or Lawrence. Dude comes prepared to win and executed with a soft touch.

Fields brings immediate energy to his team and has repeatedly proven he’s a dynamic playmaker on the biggest stage.

I think Trask is a sleeper later in the draft who makes great plays with his arm.

If we have a semblance of defense, I believe Dak can lead the team deep into the playoffs.
Yeah. This for sure.

We’ve robbed Dak of the chance to figure out how to go head to head with the best on a consistent basis and win his share. The ‘great’ QBs of this league all have defenses that keep them in games and give them second chances.

I think that depends on how quickly you can nail the QB spot. It took us like 6 years to get to Romo after going through numerous trash QBs. If we can hit on a QB right away, I agree with you, but that is a big if.

Thing is, once you pay a QB that much, he's kind of expected to win even with a less than perfect team. Which actually is fair IMO.

I don't know, the team is in a tough spot in a way. Dak isn't a carry the whole team guy, but he's too good to just let walk. I'm sure they'll pay him but it will be tough to win big after that.

Good point. We may stay on this rookie rollercoaster.

Jerry thinks every year is a SB year (yes, even with this shitty defense) so he won't trade Dak and start over. He's too old for that kind of bold undertaking. He'll overpay like he did with Jaylon, Coop and Zeke.
I'm ok overpaying for a franchise QB. Even though it's not really overpaying. It's really just paying the market rate.

I'm not ok over paying for a fucking RB, that's just stupidity. And well Jaylon, that was just poor evaluation of the player.

Great! We'll just draft the next Paxton Lynch and everything will be fine.
You can't let that near disaster paralyze you for the rest of your life. It's better to move on than pay a good player (coming off a gruesome injury) like he's great.

2019 (Dak's most recent full season) rankings:

2nd in yards
4th in TDs
2nd in first downs
6th in YPA
4th in QBR
3rd in NY/A
6th in ANY/A

In 2020 he was on a similar or better pace in all categories.

And oh by the way, he's 42-27 in his career with 2 division titles and a playoff win in 4 full seasons.

"Good player"

Certainly easy to just replace that with a QB in the draft. It's not like 1st round QBs have a 40% bust rate over a 25 year sample size or anything.

And of those that don't bust, how many actually end up better than Dak? This is an utter waste of time. And don't give me some cap excuse either, we had Dak cheap for years and didn't do anything in free agency anyway.

So this, I'd rather draft a guy than overpay is just a lazy excuse.

Correct.

In 25 years, 5% of first round QBs made all pro.

42% made the pro bowl.

Yeah, this team is world's different without Prescott on the field. But, you have to consider this source. This guy also calls Dak, Quincy 2.0, so...
It makes no difference if the wins and losses are basically the same. We get empty calorie 4th quarter stats and are never competitive against good teams. He doesn’t win games.

To be fair, it’s not like Jason Garrett didn’t have a hand in his lack of actual success. Garrett’s level of stink was all over the team, especially with the lack of mental preparation.

They aren't and they wouldn't be. This is just retarded. Any idiot who watched the Cowboys last year could tell you the defense played a million times better in the second half of the season. Dak gets that all year long and we would be in the playoffs.

Watching him repeatedly shit the bed in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of games and massively underperform in critical games tells me otherwise. His leadership and intangibles are through the roof, but the overall production and wins just aren’t there. I don’t care if you think it’s “retarded”. The numbers tell a very damning story. The failures on defense only compounded the problem.
