(Pitts/Slater), and that they would fit a specific need that we have as opposed to needing to fix some overarching offensive dysfunction.
That’s where I disagree. Slater, sure. We have witnessed how we’ve struggled when Smith has went down. And really saw it this year when both starting tackles were gone. And Smith is probably nearing the end of the line. But we do not have a need at TE. Our TEs are young, and both have shown they can perform well inside our offense.

Pitts would be a luxury pick. Yeah, he is a great prospect. But again, our net gain wouldn’t warrant the selection when we have glaring holes all over our defense. We could select pretty much ANY position on that side of the ball and instantly be substantially better there.

I don't disagree really, but it's just tough because I think Pitts could end up being the clear BPA at 10.

You think his comp is Kelce?

I think stylistically he's closer to Waller with his jump ball skills but I do think it's fair to project him as the best TE in the league.
Waller is really inconsistent. He is really good sometimes, but he also disappears a lot of times. If he is Waller, I damn sure don't want him.

I mean, I don't want a TE/big WR anyway at 10, but if we take one it better be an all-timer.

I think that has a lot to do with Carr and the Raiders passing game in general being really inconsistent, although either way I was just saying stylistically, Pitts was consistent all season long more or less.

I definitely think he has "all timer"/HOF potential if he lands in the right spot.

I don't think it's a weak defensive class at all. It's just not a great Dline draft.
Which is more than a third of and the most impactful part of any defense!

No impact safeties and a bunch of projected players like Rousseau, Farley, Paye, and Parsons who didn't play a down last year. This is hardly a great defensive class as much as it's a big "?".

The best defensive player who actually played was Surtain. Would you be happy with Surtain at 10 in any other draft?

Half of these players may get soft tissue injuries at the combine.

At 10 I would normally say give me the best OL, DL, or BPA difference-maker (who actually played in the year leading up to the draft). The OL/DL part is probably not happening depending on how Rousseau and Slater's combines go, so you have impact players next.

The dropoff from Surtain to Asanta Samuel Jr or Wade from OSU is not huge, and it's not like any of these are special. Why take a guy at 10 you can get in the 2nd round?

I'd be willing to bet that nobody will get any kind of injuries at the combine this year.

There is no combine. Cancelled.

Good point. Wonder how many rusty performances get honestly filmed at campus pro-days?

Yeah. This year is certainly going to be a crap shoot when it comes to evaluating talent. Both mental and physical.

Some are saying big WR and I say good luck.

He may have beaten good college corners but I don't believe that is his future.

Yea that'd be idiotic.
Yeah at 245 he’s already twenty pounds heavier than Noah Brown and likely only to put on more muscle as a pro.

He, like everyone, definitely faced lesser competition in 2020, and he did what you’d expect to them scoring 12 TDS even playing one less game. I’d say he did ok in the SEC championship where he was 7 for 129 and a TD vs Alabama.

Kyle Trask’s development definitely helped both Pitts and Kadarius Toney.

I'm not a huge fan of the draft pundits for a variety of reasons but I find it interesting that Kiper has Pitts as his "highest graded TE ever" and Jeremiah has him at number 3 in his top 50.

I really don't want to go pass-catcher at 10 but my gut has been telling me for a few months that Pitts might just be too rare of a prospect to pass on at 10, and it's interesting that Kiper and Jeremiah are kind of signaling that as well.

This isn't a TJ Hockenson or OJ Howard, a strong top 10-15ish prospect, this is a guy who might be a bona fide top 5-7 type in almost any year.

Shit. Pitts is far and above Hockinson and Howard.

and thus justifiable at 10?
Not to me. It would be to a team in great need of a TE. At 10 for us, not so much. I'm on the phone trying to trade down at that point for a team that needs offensive help.
