Would you trade for that contract? I dont know the exact contract numbers but I would assume thats too much dead money on the cap to cut.
Nobody wanted to trade for Elliott before the Cowboys paid him. When he was our problem in that contract holdout, nobody stepped forward to offer anything.

Does anybody actually think that someone would trade for him NOW?

So cutting after this year according to spottrac the dead money would be 24.5 million. According to that site there is an out after 2023 with a much smaller hit.

Maybe so but the lower cost replacement would offset a lot of the cost. It’s a decision a GM has to make. That’s the reason I hate these high dollar long term guarantee contracts. At some positions a team would be deter off not getting the high draft choices. RB is one of those positions. Thats one reason I didn’t like the contract pressure from Elliot before his rookie contract expired. Jones was not doing his team or salary cap any favors by caving in to the demands. He should have held the line and if Elliot didn’t want to wait and sign later then just look elsewhere. They had about a year and a half to do so in this instance.

To cut him pre-June 1 the dead money is $35.4 million. Cutting him post June 1 would be dead money of $20.5 million. Cap savings pre-June 1 would be $28 million and post June 1 would be $9.6 million.

Right. And that’s because Jones caved. He will have to live with it now. He should have waited.

I'd give up a 5th for Darnold, maybe, just as a pure value play, but a 2 is preposterous.

There's no guarantee he'd even be better than Dalton honestly.

I think we need someone more mobile than Dalton. But no thanks on Darnold.

With this line you either need someone more mobile or someone built like a brick wall.

Dalton running read options is laughable. Dude had huge holes to run through but always handed off. We need a QB with some mobility to make that stuff work. And with this offensive line we need that misdirection because we can't just line up and run on people.

I agree with Cavanaugh. Generally the game plans and play calling on offense have been solid. The only game I've taken umbrage with is the Cardinals game where they appeared to come out way too conservative. But I'll give that a pass for now given the new QB.

He doesn't need to run read options. Just give me a guy who can sling it and it'll be fine.

We can cut DLaw as a post-June cut next Summer (2021) with $0 cap hit and $25 million in dead cap space.
We can cut Elliot as a post-June cut next Summer (2021) with $0 cap hit and $13.7 million in dead cap space.
We can cut Cooper as a post-June cut next Summer (2021) with $0 cap hit and $22 million in dead cap space (I wouldn't do this)
We can cut Tyron Smith from 2021 onwards with cap savings (I wouldn't do this)
Tyrone Crawford is a free agent in 2021 (praise Jesus)

Outside of Crawford just fading away, none of these things are feasible considering the low cap figure next year.

Not really sure what point you were trying to make.

You could do all of those things. You would have a hellacious amount of dead money but you could do it. The issue would be the 1) replacement cost of the players you had to hire to replace them (it's cap neutral in 2021) and 2022 when the dead money would whack you. But, realistically, you could do one of these. Personally, I would axe DLaw. Elliot I would ask to take a pay cut. Nobody is going to pay him what he's getting after this year.
