If this turns into a scoring contest, I don’t feel good about the outcome. Dallas has a really leaking oil defense and late in the game they tend to break down very badly. Best chance for a victory for Dallas is to get a two score pad then swap scoring drives.

It’s funny, because that’s exactly what it looked like it was going to be. Then two turnovers later, we are effed.

After four games, the Cowboys had run 10 offensive plays with the lead this season. Unfathomable.

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

Fucking Meatball McCarthy was just giving Nolan the "thanks for the job" buddy treatment as a return favor, and instead fucked everyone sideways with the hire.

I guess this is how much perception differs, but Craig Miller on the Ticket was ripping McCarthy, saying he was talking like Wade Phillips in the postgame PC because MM said there was some good football out there but that doesn't matter when you lose. (He also said it's on him, it's his responsibility, this pattern can't continue, and he has to get it fixed.)

Does Miller not realize that Garrett gave us the "we did some good things" line after almost every single loss? All while never holding himself accountable.

To me, McCarthy took more responsibility in that PC than Garrett did in 10 years, which is very refreshing compared to the robotic deflection of blame Garrett rolled out for a decade.

I agree although rhetoric is only going to go so far if the defense keeps putting up one historically bad performance after another and our record is fucking 3-6 or something.

True, in the end results are what matter and press conferences are pretty meaningless. I guess I just find it odd to find McCarthy's statements far more offensive than what Garrett used to say.

When he was in Philly, Andy Reid used to take blame every single loss (he probably still does in KC).

"That's on me."

"That's my bad."

Etc.

He used to get killed by some in the media for it, especially towards the end, who said among other things it rang hollow and he never seemed to change or correct himself.

Meanwhile Reid is a great coach and of course went on to win a superbowl.

The media is often dumb.

Mike McCarthy was asked what changes could be made from a personnel or coaching front on defense after Sunday’s loss. “Well, you know we’re in a scheme change from the prior scheme here and we’re not off to a good start. The worst thing we can do is narrow everything down and be a one-call defense. I refuse to do that. That’s not the path. We have a defense that fits our players, and we have to make sure we are getting those guys in position.”
