I kind of figured this was the case. I mean, Garrett hung around for several weeks until they finally canned him.
I've been telling you guys that Stephen deserves a bit more credit. He's not a real "football guy" but he for damn sure brings more common sense and a level-headed nature that has improved things significantly since 10 years ago.

He's not perfect and fucks plenty of stuff up but we're much better off than we were circa 2008 or whatever, and if it's true that he was the driving-force behind getting rid of Garrett, and especially keeping Jerry from extending him before 2019, he should have a fucking statue.

Is anyone surprised that Jerry values "comfort" over winning? Hell, he makes $ even when we lose.

I've softened the whole "can't wait until Jerry dies" stance the last 5 or so years because it's clear he's been marginalized as a decision-maker and our drafts have improved significantly, but this horse shit has me right back on the train.

It's possible that Garrett was his last "adopted son" type after Romo and Dez left, but who really knows?

Either way, he can't have more than about 7-10 years left.

Yeah, just shows you that Jerry was wanting any excuse possible to keep his buddy. Which was nothing about winning and everything about a friendship. Yet your good buddy Jimmy wins a Superbowl and you have to fuck it all up in a tussle over credit. I guess he was never going to have that problem with Garrett...
No, he clearly couldn't handle another alpha in Jimmy, despite the obvious success but was willing to keep the lap dog without it.

Just don't ever talk about how important "winning" is when you're willing to pull this shit Jerry.

Pretty nice that Sturm provides even more evidence that Garrett is in fact basically just a younger, more slick-talking Wade Phillips.

Based on his mother's age it's completely possible could be looking at another 20 years.
Plus all the hobo hearts and other organs Jerry has lined up when needed.

I'm not kidding, there should be a literal statue of Stephen if that story is true. I don't know what sort of extension it would've been, or how willing Jerry would've been to move on after 1-2 years, but given how they dicked around for a week for no apparent reason ("exit interviews", etc.) I'd imagine a Garrett extension would've guaranteed another 3 years at least.

Three years from now you could throw Elliott, Martin, Tyron and perhaps Lawrence on the list of Pro Bowl/HOF-caliber players with careers squandered by Garrett.

At least now those guys have a chance at doing something.

"Maybe he would have been fired for standing up for what a coach needs and what is right. And maybe then his appeal would be much greater because he had to have things his way."

Exactly what I said in 2012. Several disagreed with me.

Fucking ridiculous, but not surprising. Disappointing would be the word that I would use. Incredibly disappointing.

I'll criticize Stephen for his handling of these player contracts, but if this is true, he gets my praise for finally being the voice of reason.
Im with Simp. A MFing statue in Stephen's honor. Jesus, Jerry is straight up senile.

Ultimately whatever happens with the team is Jerry's fault. He is the man at the top. So when guys fail below him the blame always ultimately lands at his feet. Unfortunately Jerry can't be fired.

If they would have kept that son of a bitch, I would have been done.

Of course not, because we were never going to win a Super Bowl with Garrett.
