Any good centers in the draft?
If Cushenberry or Ruiz were there in the 2nd I'd take them depending on the board, Biadasz or whatever would be solid in the 3rd.

I wouldn't force it though because McGovern was actually a legit center prospect and we can make due with Looney if necessary.

Might have resigned Sua Fila though. Would have been nice to have an extra solid player in there even if for depth.

Exactly. It's just like dumbass Witten retiring in the middle of the draft a couple of years ago.

There is some real cap consequences to this too. $11M.

I am not a salary cap geek, but I do not think this is all that great.

Jesus Christ. Every fucking offseason, some sort of shitty news has to jump up and kick us in the sack. Suspension, injury, retirement, disease, etc...

Well at least there is still time to look at the draft prospects at center.

Ruiz will be long gone before our 2nd.

Really, the best option is McGovern. This just means we are thinner overall in terms of depth on the interior.

Well shit. This came completely out of nowhere.

Damn, I was looking forward to have that Frederick/Martin tandem back in tact.....assuming he'd be a lot better another year removed from that disease.

Oh well. Looks like it'll either be Looney, McGovern, or the draft.

Just re-sign Leary for like 1.5 million and we'll be fine depth wise. Leary is almost certainly better than Su'a-Filo if healthy.
That's a very good thought. Salary seems low but if he'll sign for even close to that I would be all for it.

Fucking sucks. Loved Frederick. The guy should have played to 36.

My guess is he has never felt right from his disease. Awful.
Well in his statement he did say playing "well" is not what I expect of myself or what my teammates deserve.

I'm not in favor of using another 1st or 2nd round pick on OL.

We survived 2018 w/o Frederick so it's not like the OL will be a train wreck without him.

I agree. No more premium picks on the OL for this year. Too much need in other areas

As far as I can tell there's no impact on the cap this year, his cap hit was supposed to be about 11 and now his dead cap is 11, so it's a net 0.

The real savings of course comes in the next year or two when he would've counted around 10-11 against the cap, and now that's totally off the books.

So as long as they can make a guy fit under the cap this year they can have their number jump significantly next year. We could easily sign Clowney to a 3/50 deal where his 2020 cap hit is like 8 but his second and third years are around 20, with that jump from 8 to 20 paid for in full by the savings on Frederick's number coming off the books.

The problem is they will never do that in a million years.

Not interested in Clowney. Over rated, over paid. That, and he'll fuck with our comp picks. The trifecta of no thank you. I'd rather have E. Griffen. Better player, cheaper, and won't affect our comp picks. The trifecta of WTF are we waiting for?

We drafted McGovern last year because he was great value and a second round talent. I don't see the point in drafting another center who we see as a second round talent.

I wouldn't mind another Olineman though. And have no problem drafting a center or guard on the third day now. I'd bring Leary back though. Probably our best option at LG where I had hoped McGovern would play.

Sure, my point is we can basically sign anybody we want, if we want.

When people bitch that contracts should be guaranteed stuff like this happens and I'd love to ask for guaranteed money back to help with the cap. But that's not classy so we won't do it. But you see how both sides can collect the cash and leave.
