Way too early to panic for sure. Cowboys Twitter is on the damn ledge right now. Everyone just needs to calm the hell down. This is only day 2 of FA.
That's the downside to a world where everything comes easy and the world is literally at your fingertips. Patience is a lost art.

All the solid CB and DTs that could've really helped this team without breaking the bank are gone.

WTF happened to this team's mentality towards FA?

It's at a point now where there is no use in putting together a list because our list is obviously going to consist of good players, and if that player is good, then it means it's going to cost more than the bargain basement type deals this team wants.

It's ridiculous and really frustrating.

They are so close to putting together a championship roster and not even then are they willing to splurge on a guy or two.

There's just no escaping the Jones curse.

1) True, we are fucked as long as the Joneses are here.

2) We have overpaid on retaining too many of our own guys to have the flexibility to go out and pay big money to a lot of guys right now.

We have the money to spend. I think it's just a bullshit Jones excuse at this point. When Crawford is one of your highest paid players you can't tell me we don't have room to work under the cap. We still have like 25 mil to play with. And we do nothing. And if you cut Crawford that jumps up to well over 30 mil.

This is my problem, they have the ability to sign a guy like Reader (13/year) and especially Joseph or Pierce (8-9/year), they just refuse to even involve themselves or think too far beyond their own walls, preferring to keep Crawford at a preposterous cap number and gazing at their own belly buttons by resigning guys like Brown.

It's like the Carr signing scarred Stephen for life and now he won't even consider a FA unless it's basically a bargain basement price. And Carr wasn't even a complete bust, he was a perfectly competent starter, just not at an elite level.

What it comes down to in my opinion is a combination of fear/arrogance/laziness from Stephen, of course with the overarching lack of a true, grounded football acumen.

I agree here.

There comes a time where the addition of one or two top players can put you over the top. Look at the Rams a couple of years ago. Dallas in the 90s with Haley and Sanders. Its almost like they view Free Agency as a plague.

Yeah, of course we have money. And as much as I like to bash the yahoos running the team (and I do), I don't really have a problem with us not jumping at silly contracts.* I think there are still mid-level improvements available. Go get me

Von Bell or Karl Joseph
Brandon Carr
Emmanuel Sanders
Everson Griffen
Snacks Harrison

and I'd be happy. Won't get all of them, but 3 of the 5 (and addressing the other two positions) would work.

*Edit - I know not all contracts for valuable players have been silly.

Don't get me started on that Crawford bullshit again! I'll go off! I mean it!

this guy cant even play, can he? Exploding hips and all...
He sure couldn't last year, even when he did manage to bet on the field.

Oh, but this team paid him $10 million for 2019 to find out the hard way. And currently, they're set to pay him $9.1 million again. To have no actual starting role.

Just burn the money.

Even if he is at preinjury form he isn't worth it. The injury question makes it even worse. McCoy is a time leader so you don't even need Crawford for that. But I'm sure in Jerry's mind it's a RE he can trust instead of those unknown free agents.

You can either try to build a good team for a long time but never get over the hump or you can push your chips all in and try to make a run for a year or two. Dallas seems content to continually be building for a good team but doesn't seem willing to take the shots for greatness. I just don't get it. The defense was a problem last year but we have done little to fix it.

Hopefully we have another trade in us like we did last year for Quinn. I wonder if a guy like Sheldon Rankins could be traded for on the cheap. Or someone like that. I'd love to trade more late round picks for guys like Quinn.

And the window is now, certainly for this offensive line and peak-Zeke, Cooper, Tank.

If by "trust" you mean to "trust" him to let Saquon Barkley run by him for 60 yards, and get zero sacks as your 'starting right defensive end'?

Sure, you're guaranteed that will happen.

What Crock said -- that 2nd point isn't true at all.

They just put the weirdest values on some guys and then want to be insultingly cheap with some of the guys who truly deserve it.

You couldn't go get Linval or Karl Joseph, Trufant, Chris Harris, or Danny Shelton for the 8-10 mill a year but you keep paying that scrub Tyron Crawford?

GTFO.

They could've cut him and made more room to sign those other guys. Hell, they have enough room to sign them even with Crawford still on the roster.

The problem is that these guys have gotten extremely cheap and it's like they don't understand the concept of a middle ground.

Just because you got screwed by contracts in the past doesn't mean you don't sign any premier FA's ever again.

I'm still baffled how Crawford has tricked this organization into thinking he is a good player. The guy is a zero add DE. He is a JAG that I can get just as much production from at DE as the guys we drafted the previous two seasons. He is a little better at DT but you sure as shit don't want him starting next to McCoy. The run defense would be utter shit.
