The simple answer is don't run that zone coverage as much and get Sean Lee off the field. Guys like Jaylon and Vander Esch are monsters in man coverage against a TE. So use them that way.

It's astonishing just how long the Cowboys pass defense has both struggled with zone coverage and the short underneath stuff.

It's like those yards in the middle of the field between the hash marks is free all the time.

Aikman pointed it out with Sean Lee during a game. They just don't cover the man at all. Like Aikman said, Zone doesn't mean you don't cover a player, you go cover the guy in your zone. Too often our guys were waiting for a ball to be thrown before they cover.

Yes, and it's been a problem for years.

All Garrett-era bias aside, it honestly is head-scratching that the Cowboys suffered from the same issues for so many years and no one on the coaching staff or in the front office ever thought they should take steps to address those things.

Poor zone coverage, inability to cover underneath, inability to create turnovers, inability to stop the run with any consistency, etc.

These things have gone on for so long that you just sort of assumed they were going to struggle with those things every year.
