Florio reported that Zimmer and Kubiak could be candidates for the job, I don't take Kubiak seriously as a candidate but I could definitely see Zimmer. There are rumors that if the Vikings lose to the Saints, which I think is extremely likely, that they will replace Zimmer with Stefanski.

So how would everybody feel about a Zimmer/Kubiak as OC pairing?

I wouldn't love Zimmer as HC on his own but if you pair him with a very experienced/proven OC in Kubiak I think we could have something. Our offensive personnel is tailor-made for Kubiak's zone-running/bootleg/play action scheme and I think Zimmer could pretty quickly get our defense playing at an elite level with a few personnel tweaks (a run-stuffing DT or two).

Not the most exciting thing in the world but it could be very practical.
It would be hard for me to see that as anything different than the last decade we have suffered through. His coaching record is not much different than Garrett, about 20 games above .500 in the regular season, a little under .500 in the post-season.

I just really don't want the 8-8 purgatory, and Zimmer wouldn't give me hope we could break out. I know Cowher and Dungy (and Kubiak, for that matter) ultimately got rings, but they needed HOF QBs to do it. Dak can be good, but he ain't Peyton Manning.

Somebody like Rhule or Taub would give me hope that I wouldn't have with Zimmer. I'm sure I will regret this, but I would prefer hope with a risk that it leads to 4-12s and termination in 2 years over the known quantity mediocrity that has us navel gazing after successive 8-8, 7-9, and 10-6 campaigns.

This is exactly what I thought when I heard that one of the reasons Jerry was dragging this out was to allow Garrett time to properly closeout the season....conducting exit interviews and such.

This is a huge waste of time for two reasons. First, Garrett isn't going to be there next season so those players are paying even less attention to his message now than they did in the past. Second, why would any of them care what a loser like Garrett has to say when clearly he has no clue about what it takes to excel in NFL.

Now if an outgoing coach like Sean Payton were holding exit interviews, absolutely attend and pay attention to his message. But there is no way in hell these guys give a flying fuck about the message being delivered by that clapping buffoon.
There was one player that didn't even bother to wait in line for his interview. He left and said he would be back today. :lol

I know why Jerry would want to keep Moore and Kitna, and it's not so much that they're incredible coaches. It's because they (especially Moore) reportedly have such a great relationship and rapport with Dak. Maybe that's dumb thinking, but I think that's the reason.

On Garrett, I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry didn't offer him some kind of front office position and is giving Jason time to think about it, to see if any other team would be interested in him first, etc.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Jason, being the master Jerry manipulator he is, knows that the longer he stalls this, the more the sting from a terrible season dissipates and the more likely he is to talk Jerry into keeping him as coach.

Jason has always done his best work not anywhere near a football field, but in the back rooms working his politics and persuasion.

So Jerry cares so much about Garrett that everyone else can fuck the hell off and not start working on their next job.

For Jerry to truly do it right, he would hire a head coach and back the fuck out of the way. Let the new HC decide if Moore or Kitna stays and what exactly their role would be. But, as we all know, Jerry has never done it the right way because he has no clue what the right way is.

and you subtly suggest to the players that the new coach isn't calling the shots. he hasn't been hired yet and he's already being undermined.

I can see that, although I think the idea is that Zimmer did what he did with average or worse play at QB, and generally average or worse offensive talent across the board (aside from WR) until this season.

Presumably with the kind of offensive talent we have he'd be able to get even more out of the roster, although I agree that his teams over the last 5-6 years have followed a very Garrett-pattern of going 10-6 one year, 8-8 the next, before going 10-6 or 11-5 again the year after.

But Peyton Manning wasn't Peyton Manning that year, either.

I do get what you're saying, though. Some just don't want a retread. And Kubiak wouldn't have Phillips and that great defense, either.

What is there to marinate over? He was given a goal to meet and a set of consequences if not. He didnt come near meeting the goal so just announce that we will be looking for a new HC.
Exactly.

So the fact that they are still dragging this out tells me that he absolutely would have brought him back with a playoff win of any kind.

I never ever bought for one second that Jerry had this super high bar for him to meet.

One, the last 25 years shows that Jerry doesn't have a standard of excellence that he demands his HCs meet.

Two, his affinity for Garrett meant that he had an even longer leash than most which is saying something.

You'll never convince me that NFCC or bust was the standard he set for his boy.

If you truly believe that, you haven't been paying attention to how Jerry has conducted business for most of the last 25 years or so.

I still don't believe this. Like I said before... Jerry is an attention whore. He believes his news deserves more press than others, and is above announcing things at the same time as other teams.

It's why we always see Cowboys news during the Super Bowl week. Right before the draft. During the pro bowl. Etc...

And that is why he will wait until after the rush of black monday has passed. THEN he'll have his press conference.

This confuses me. Why do you post this in random threads. Am I missing something?
:lol

I occasionally have trouble trying to post something in a particular thread (it just loads forever and never posts) and if I post something different for some reason it fixes it.

One work around that works for me when my post doesn't load is to drop a quick smiley.

I'll copy/cut the text I originally wanted to post and replace it with an :lol.

After that post has loaded I'll edit it and paste in my original text. It's worked every time so far.
