At this point I'd have an open mind with pretty much any hire. I'm not in love with McDaniels but I could easily see the parallels between how Belichick failed in Cleveland, admittedly because he was trying too hard to be like Parcells, then he returned to Parcells for a few years before going to New England and becoming the greatest HC ever.

Long story short, I'd be willing to roll the dice on McDaniels.

/\ best argument for mcdaniels I have seen yet. I still think there is a wink and nod agreement in place that he is the next HC of the Patriots.

On this Thanksgiving Day, I recall another T - day during the Jimmy Johnson era when Leon Lett screwed up badly and chased a partially block field goal down toward to he goal line. It wound up allowing the Dolphins to score and cost Dallas the game.

Johnson stepped up and shouldered the blame, saying it was the coaching staff's fault -- collectively -- for not coaching the players sufficiently about those situations.

Think Garrett would ever do that?

He has done it this year. Only it was several days later and after throwing the Austin under the bus.

Let's say today's game is close, closer than it should be, and ugly. An ugly win for Red Pube, say 17 - 14.

Is that another nail in the coffin, assuming a coffin is being made ready?

Jerry hinted at Super Bowl or bust for Garrett yesterday so I think a win regardless of how close wont matter either way. It will only get dicey if they lose. We would see how far he bends on his no coaching change midseason remark.

His fate is sealed. He's not going to suddenly figure out how to be a good coach and take this team deep into the playoffs. The day after the season ends, he's gone.

Yeah I don't think this game will make a difference at all. Even making the playoffs won't save Garrett. Jerry has made it pretty clear other coaches are out coaching us. The inly thing that saves Garrett is going to be post season success.

Jerry won't fire Garrett midseason. Not his buddy. Especially not when he can just let his contract expire and save face of never having to fire Garrett.

I agree Jerry most likely wouldn't fire him at this point in the season. But what I can't figure out is how Jerry finally arrived at the conclusion that Garrett sucks as a coach.

It's been plain for a long time, even to a casual observer, that Garrett mismanages games, plays a low-risk, chicken-shit brand of football, and gets out-coached regularly. The Minnesota game was as much a debacle as the NE game.

Why now? What was the catalyst? Does somebody from outside the organization (Aikman?) have his ear? Finally? After all this time?

Seeing lots of speculation from people that wouldn't be surprised if Witten is the next head coach. Would you flip a table or be okay with that?

Jerry has a high tolerance for Garrett. It's not just the Pats loss but I think that game was sort of the tipping point for Jerry. Everything added together to the point where the cup was finally filled to the point of spilling.

I'd be pissed. Another job that Witten has no clue how to do but gets hired because of loyalty and his history as a player. I love the guy but it would be just as ridiculous as him being an announcer or playing in our 2 minute offense.

I was at that game, it was surprisingly comfortable in the stadium, despite that, many people left so we went down to seats about 10 rows up at the 50 yardline. There were two Miami fans behind us talking shit the whole game and when it looked over & Dallas was gonna win, they took off. I was laughing and enjoying my turn to talk shit as they left flipping me off, etc.

A short time later the kick fiasco happened and we got the hell out of there as fast as we could before they could find me and make me eat crow
