They sure seem to be pushing this narrative a lot.

Report: If fired, Jason Garrett’s preferred destination is the Giants

As Cowboys coach Jason Garrett embarks on what could be the final six games of his tenure in Texas, someone connected to Garrett is offering a not-so-subtle warning to Jones & Son, LLC: If you don’t keep Garrett, he may end up coaching one of your biggest rivals.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL has floated the idea of Garrett landing with the Giants, if the Cowboys opt not to give him a new contract and if the Giants tear up the remaining years on Pat Shurmur’s deal.

The biggest kernel of news is that the Giants would be Garrett’s top choice if the Cowboys don’t keep him. And that may indeed be true. But the fact that it’s coming out now is hardly a coincidence. It’s a be-careful-what-you-wish-for jab at Jerry Jones, reminding him that, if he doesn’t want Garrett, someone else may.

Jones has said the same thing, repeatedly, in defending Garrett. But when Garrett became a free agent in Jaunary 2015, no one else even tried to hire him.

That’s where Rapoport’s story gets a little wobbly. He claims that the Giants would have fired Tom Coughlin after the 2014 season, if they could have gotten Garrett. Apart from the nonchalant recitation of what would be an obvious violation of the spirit of the Rooney Rule, the reality is that the Giants could have fired Coughlin and could have waited for Garrett, because Garrett was about to become a free agent.

Again, this feels more like an effort to scare the Cowboys than an effort to find a landing spot for Garrett. When questions were swirling a year ago regarding John Harbaugh’s future in Baltimore, multiple teams were indeed ready to pounce. This year, with Garrett potentially only five calendar weeks from leaving the Cowboys, the strongest statement that can be made is that his first choice for 2020 would be the Giants.

They say this like him going to the Giants would be a bad thing.

If Garrett goes, Giants become my favorite team and I root for them to shame the Cowboys at every opportunity, ultimately, on the microphone when Garrett’s being handed the Lombardi.

I'd root for them to win it too if Garrett at the post win podium says "this is what happens when you don't have a meddling GM & owner!" (with a dumbass jeri-wink as a capper)

Was this debacle enough to get Garrrett fired? Aikman was stopping just short of saying Garrett's a shitty coach.

If they go 3 - 2 the rest of the way, finish at 9 - 7, win the division -- then what?

Without a decent enough run in the playoffs -- and I don't want to say it requires a championship game win or even appearance, but they are at least gonna need a decent playoff showing -- then I think Garrett is gone.

The groundwork for the divorce is being laid. Jones is expressing his frustration which is basically an ultimatum. Garrett is either leaking his availability or other teams are sensing the rumblings and are putting out media feelers.

Of course, leave it to Jones to do this in the dumbest way possible - four days before a critical Thanksgiving matchup, he's giving not just Garrett but the entire coaching staff reason to lose focus and have their agents looking for their next jobs.

But if Jones is feeling like he's done with this, all I can say is, he better be making calls now. And he should probably be doing so with no one other than maybe Stephen present, so there is no leaks. But he should be calling guys like Lincoln Riley or whoever he feels like is an upgrade, a la Bill Parcells hiring.

Get your ducks in a row. Don't wait till you get bounced in the second round and then start putting out feelers. By then, all the bottom feeding teams will have their targets lined up and you'll be getting scraps.

It appears to me that the Cowboys has a good game plan. It was a run first plan. That part worked pretty well. The passing game even though it garnered 200 yards plus, it wasn’t effective because it bogged down at crucial times. Dak was just off the mark at times plain and simple. The defense did a pretty good job of keeping the Patriots down. The turnovers were what really turned the scoring their way.

The team needs to learn how to adjust to inclimate weather conditions and how to get off to a fast start. The game was winnable but mistakes gave it away.
