Too bad we lost that massive thread.

Glad to see our legal system got it right this time. I have not read the comments on here but did read lots of the court transcript. Anyone with any common sense and respect for our laws, could see this coming...

I am amazed though...completely innocent? Very shocking.
I'm not.

If you kept up with the trial, the facts were completely in his favor and under the law regarding those facts neither murder nor manslaughter fit whatsoever.

Well, I haven't kept up and since when do facts and the law fit in racially charged cases like this?

SANFORD, Florida -- A Florida jury on Saturday found George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, in a case that sparked a national debate on race and guns.

The jury of six women returned the verdict after more than 16 hours of deliberation over two days. Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder, but the jury had the option of finding him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Zimmerman stood stone-faced as the verdict was read. He flashed a smile when the jurors left the courtroom. His parents embraced each other and his wife was tearful. If he had been convicted, the 29-year-old former neighborhood watch volunteer, who claimed he acted in self-defense, could have been sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder or up to 30 years for manslaughter.

The outcry on twitter was worse than I thought it'd be. Jason La Canfora is obviously angling to be apart of Jesse Jackson's next political run.

Exactly. The prosecution did a remarkable job of completely fucking up this case. They really made themselves look like idiots time and time again and had no substantial evidence to convict anyone. It was embarrassingly bad. The jury had no alternative but to find him not guilty based on the prosecution's piss poor job.

It's not entirely their fault, they had no case. They couldn't find a single witness who could unequivocably say that Zimmerman was the aggressor and Martin was being overpowered because, quite simply, that's not what happened. I mean, when you think about "innocent until proven guilty" how in the hell can the Prosecution go to trial without a witness who can testify in your argument's favor? That means they had NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE to support their theory. You're gonna get a conviction based on that loose of a case?

Trayvon Martin was a punk and he attacked George Zimmerman because he was mad that Zimmerman was following him, and he got shot for it.

Not happy he died, but what happened to him that night is his own fault.

Then again, the only reason the case went to trial was racism. That is to say, the Police Chief down there looked at the evidence, correctly predicted there was no case at all and that Zimmerman was justified in defending himself, and then the racist US Justice Department and a bunch of racist protest groups put pressure on the county to fire the police chief and bring in someone who would charge Zimmerman.

So we wasted a lot of time and effort for a jury to prove exactly what most of us already knew the night after it happened.

Also, if he (or anyone) is "confused" they should take a couple basic legal classes.

Meanwhile I'm confused that the black community seems to think racial profiling makes someone a murderer. Oh wait, I'm not confused, it's the same race baiting that people like Jesse Jackson always uses.

If you watched the trial you wouldn't be shocked at all. Prosecution had virtually no reliable evidence and relied almost entirely on trying to manipulate juror's emotions.

I am sure the neighborhood watch will happily have Zimmerman back protecting them asap. Right?

I am surprised that there are so many people that chose to let emotion keep them from thinking logically. A total disregard to the law that we live with in favor for thoughtless anger is common.

Decrying the current laws could be argued with some thought but just saying he got away with killing a kid is dumb. I mean he did kill him...you know what I mean.

It's not self defense if you bring a gun to a fist fight
Since he didn't throw the first punch he didn't bring anything to a fist fight. A fist fight was brought to a guy with a gun. Totally different thing.

Kind of hard to convict someone when your own witnesses support the defense. On the other hand, the prosecutor's office NEVER WANTED THAT CASE, so maybe their prosecution was half-hearted when they took it to trial against their will.
