I have used myfitnesspal.com for 303 days and went from 210 to 169. It makes things easy for you...when I first started I would begin the day with 1200 calories, then based on what exercise I did, I could gain more calories. So if you want to eat, you have to put in the work. Now I am up to a 2070 per day plan, just maintenance now. Best shape of my life and I turn 44 next month.

I was using the fitbit which I think does a lot of the same things fitnesspal does, but I somehow lost the little piece that plugs into the laptop that records your progress. Hard to keep on a good plan without it, but but even losing a pound or two in a week tells me I'm on the right track.

I'm interested in getting one of those. How do you record meals/calories in that thing? myfitnesspal has a drop down area that you can pick your meal and food items that calculates everything for you.

You seriously motivate me when I hear you talk about that. You've done a damn good job. If you have any more tips I'd like to hear them. I need to drop some weight.

I was in incredible shape for 2 years about 3 years ago. I had a couple of pretty bad injuries and haven't got back into the game like I should again. I've bounced in a and out here and there but not like I should.

I have the ipad app that lets me record everything I eat and the fitbit itself sends the info on my activity. If you don't have the app, I think you can just use a website. It's pretty easy to use and helpful to keep it updated daily because it'll adjust how much activity you need based on your meals.

Does the app let you mess with it on your phone on the fly or do you have to be sitting down with your ipad? I like to record stuff as I eat it so I don't forget.

There's a phone app as well, I just never used it.

I swear by it. You burn calories doing anything from shoveling snow, walking, to mowing the yard. The key though is to honestly track your food. I'd say it is very similar to Weight Watchers, but Weight Watchers is not as effective IMO because they don't count fruit or vegetables...and can carry over calories to the next day.

Most of the food we eat is already in their database. I go to the site on my phone...I don't much care for the app.

Wait, myfitnesspal tracks activities too? Tell me more.

I eat an unhealthy meal here and there, but gone are the days of a cheeseburger and fries today, followed by a pizza 3 days later.

Yesterday I had a salad for lunch and grilled chicken, veggies and rice for dinner.

Today it's low sodium turkey on wheat, and for dinner I'll probably have chicken and whole wheat pasta.

Then the weekend could be a steak, maybe a burger or something, then it's right back to mostly healthy foods.

Once you get past the first 2 weeks, you're good.

Try to make the majority of what you eat protein, vegetables and fruit, when you eat carbs try to eat whole grains. Keep healthy snacks around the house like regular/dried fruit, nuts, yogurt, etc. Look at the meals that you're eating and try to eat more of the proteins/vegetables available as opposed to the bread, rice, and so forth.

Work out at least 3 times a week, even if it's just walking or light lifting and then increase it as you see fit.

The key is turning all of these things into habits and being conscious of what you're eating. Once you get used to it you'll naturally start to monitor yourself and it will become second nature. Fad diets/workout plans will do nothing but give you short term results, if that, it's really all just about creating a routine/habits that work for you and then self-adjust as you progress.

There is an exercise tab, a food tab, a reports tab, and a home tab. In the exercise tab it has all kinds of exercises in the database...it will figure it out for you, but if you use an elliptical or treadmill, I use the numbers off of there.

You just need to go to the site and look around...it has everything you need.

Well, it's done. I got the lapband yesterday, it's real now. I don't feel bad, just a little sore. A lot of gas, not farts, but air pockets in my body, my shoulders hurt a good bit. But other than that I'm good, living on chicken broth and sugar free Popsicles. It's the good life.

Good luck buddy.

I don't know what the doctors orders are, but getting up and taking small walks and getting lots of pats on the back like you're a baby are good for getting post-surgery gas out.

My wife had a procedure done 2 years ago that gave her a bunch of gas and that's what helped her.

My brother in law got it. Just be prepared for weird eating for a while, but in the long run, it will be worth it. And oh yeah, the farts never go away. I have never been around a man that gassy in my life. Bastard can rip one at any time now.

My dad has had some nasty ass gas since his gastric surgery. I mean, nasty. He can clear an entire house.

Well, a month ago I was 350, I was 343 Friday (day of surgery). I'm 336 today. I haven't had much to eat. Some broth, chicken and beef, and maybe one package of oatmeal. Supposed to start back on protien shakes in the morning, not supposed to have solid foods for the first two weeks but that'd gonna be hard.
