Umm, we just won the division last year.
I'm pretty sure he meant titles as multiple not consecutive. Nobody has won the NFC East consecutively for years.

So hear me out.

I actually think that dude would make a killer coach. No idea what he is up to these days but he was a great leader, knew everything going on at all times on defense and was passionate. You want to tell me Sean Lee is going to be the next head coach and I think I'd say, let's fucking go.

On paper he would look like a terribly unqualified candidate and he would be. But at least I could see the makings of a great coach.

You might say Witten is similar. But I've never gotten the impression that Witten was overly football smart. I think he was smart at TE. But I don't think he understands a lot more than that. Then again, I'm not sure Dan Campbell does either.
If you like Lee as a potential HC I think you have to like Witten as well.

And it might make sense if it was done organically 5 years from now, instead we're left with this stupid shit.

Yeah the only difference is I don't know if Witten is as knowledgeable as Sean Lee. Sean Lee always struck me as a super intelligent and prepared guy. Like he knew where everyone on defense was supposed to be at every second.

Witten on the other, maybe just based on his announcing days, kind of sounded like he wasn't overly knowledgeable about the entire football team.

But frankly, I'd be happier with Witten I think then the turds they are throwing out now. Hell maybe it ends in epic disaster but shit, I know BS or Kellen Moore will absolutely not work out. And frankly I do think Witten could make an excellent NFL head coach. I just think he needs more seasoning before he is ready. Like a lot more seasoning. Go let him be the TE coach for Sean Payton for a few years and I'd probably be down with making him the head coach.

Yes. Not a fan of fast-tracking someone to the NFL. In the old days, guys like Parcells and Holmgren worked their way up through the college ranks. Now we're just forecasting their ability to coach based on the type of player they were and I think, more than likely, that will not be an accurate predictor. Coaching is a very nuanced profession and betting on former players like Lee and Witten is a waste of time and resources.

It's why teams pluck assistants from the best teams. You want a guy who has seasoning and experience learning from and working with a great head coach. Not someone with no experience. Or even the concept of giving Witten experience as an assistant under some shit hire as our next head coach. That's not real experience. You want a guy learning from the best. Not learning from Kellen Moore or Schottenheimer.

Anyway, I mentioned Sean Lee a bit as a joke. But I do think he has the raw material to be a football coach.

I forgot until I heard Werder say it that Jerry wanted to force Witten onto Mike's staff the first time around in 2020 but Mike said no.

If you think so little of Mike that you want to put his replacement on the staff, why the hell do you want Witten or whoever learning from them? Again, if you want to make Witten a Cowboys head coach either do it or help find him a job on another team. I'm sure Jerry could pull some strings to help get him on the staff of another team.

Well, that can't be. Nobody says no to Jerry. He just does what he wants.

So Fat Mike's down to the Saints job. I don't think he gets it.

Interesting. I wouldn't think he would be interested in a coordinator position at his age.
