But comparing him to Parcells and Belichick? I don't think so.
You think either of those guys would allow the circus that follows Deion? I certainly don't. (remember how much Parcells hated the drama around T.O.?) And that circus would hit hyperdrive in the Dallas spotlight. I want no part of it.
And why should we bend to Deion being able to assemble a good staff, but just discount Moore from doing so? But anyway, DAMN you for making me defend Kellen Moore. For the record, I don't any part of him, either. But if those are my only two choices, I take Moore.
I totally get the reservations with Deion because of his reputation and what he was like as a player.
However, as I alluded to before, I've been pleasantly surprised from what I've seen from him as a coach and more importantly, his approach as a coach.
Consider this....One of the guys that he most confides in for guidance and advice is Nick Saban. And if you hear Nick Saban talk about Deion, he always speaks of him very highly and has a lot of respect for what Deion is doing as a coach.
From that I take away two important things: first, if you were to make a short list of coaches that you would want to seek coaching advice and direction from, Nick Saban would be on that list.
Second, do you think Nick Saban would provide as much guidance to Deion as he has if he didn't respect him or thought for one second that Deion wasn't at all serious about this coaching thing?
I highly doubt it.
From the outside, you are talking about two guys who couldn't be any more different but yet they've formed a friendship in recent years.
That to me lends a lot of credibility to Deion as a coach and to his style of coaching. It also tells me that he's a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for because it's not like he's seeking out the advice of coaches just because they're black or guys that he had a personal relationship from back in the day or any other such nonsense.
The guy has surrounded himself with the types of people that he believes truly gives him the best chance to succeed as a football coach. And if he were to be made the coach in Dallas and continued on with that same approach?
I think he'd actually have a solid chance to succeed.
I look at Kellen Moore and I see another Jason Garrett and a guy that will never ever command the respect of an NFL locker room. I want no part of that spineless goof whatsoever.
