Ben Johnson turned down interviews for teams he didn't feel we're a good fit or run well or whatever was out there. He wouldn't come here.

That part doesn't even matter because we wouldn't pay him anywhere close to what he'll get from whatever team hires him anyway.

The thing that pisses me off is that they clearly wanted him back and this was a money issue.

Whether you agree with him returning or not, MONEY should not be a limiting factor in acquiring or retaining coaches when there's no cap for paying coaches.

Cheap ass fucks.
It will probably come out shortly. There's no reason for Mike not to disclose what the issues were.

I think we COULD win with Dak, with the right guys around him. It starts with the right HC and the right players, and both are in the grasp but Jones isn’t going to go there just as you pointed out.
You need an all star team of talent around Dak to get over the hump.

You need Lamb, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Jason Witten, Ezekiel Elliott before he was washed up, and a star offensive line.

Then Dak can win. Maybe, since he had all that at one point and still didn't win.

Edit: Oh wait, I guess Lamb and Witten missed each other by 1 year.

I also completely did not remember that apparently Witten "retired," after 2017, didn't play in 2018, then came back in 2019 and played for the Cowboys again? I have literally no memory of that. I remember him playing with the Raiders in 2020.

The only thing surprising about this shitshow is that they announced it the same day as a playoff game.
Jerry will still get lots of network coverage.

I fully expect the list to be empty retreads or guys who have ties to Dallas:

Deion Sanders
Jason Witten
Kellen Moore
Jon Gruden
The Village Idiot
Pete Carroll
Bill Belichick (yes, I still think his name will come up)

Beyond that, I don’t see anyone else.

McCarthy probably wanted a 5 year deal like last time and like every coach gets, basically.

The Cowboys probably wanted a 2-3 year deal because they basically wanted to fire him this year but then couldn't when he ruined their draft positioning by winning a bunch of games down the stretch (which is, illogically, also what they wanted him to do, because they never embrace a tank like they should).

And the reason they wanted a 2-3 year deal is because they aren't convinced they won't have to fire him next season when they again fail to do anything of value in the offseason in regard to improving their personnel, and they don't want to have to buy out 4 more contract years, they only want to have to buy out 1 or 2.

So they'll get a new guy for much cheaper with no skins on the wall, who comes baked in with at least 2 year grace period to keep 'em off the J's ass, and because it'll be someone no one wants, they'll give him only a 4 year deal instead of 5, and again probably only have to buy out 1-2 years when this new guy also fails to reach even a Championship game.

This is exactly right except they likely won't be buying out the new coach whether he fails or not. It would have to be abysmal to the point where they are so bad that fan apathy is affecting his bottom line. Most likely the next guy gets to the end of his contract and twists in the wind like the last 2 coaches.

Went back and listened to the Fan, and Bobby Belt actually threw out Doug Pedersen, plus Witten as a legitimate option. :lol :doh

I could definitely see Pederson, I forgot about him. He's actually the perfect Jerry hire, he has experience, he's won a super bowl, and he's humble enough to defer to Jerry on everything and never rock the boat.

I'd rather Jason fucking Witten and that's really saying something. Deion has no idea about building a team.
Even Jerry said a few months ago that Deion was more of a college coach due to recruiting, which is true.

As big a football dumbass as Jerry is, I don't think even he would hire Deion.

Translation: Jerry was fine giving him a 1, maybe 2 year extension (because he refuses to fire a HC with years on the deal) and McCarthy refused.
