I think we’re going to hear that McCarthy never intended on staying in Dallas, and hopefully we’ll hear a little about the dysfunction that went on behind the scenes.

we would never draft a kid just because his father worked here :unsure

We definitely would but I don't think Deion's kid will be available at our pick. We also have 500 billion dollars or whatever invested in Dak and you know Jerry doesn't look like to waste money.

I think the opposite. I think we are going to hear (and already are) that it's a contract issue. I think Jerry will try to lie about that but it's already out there and plainly obvious.

I would, too. I think he'll make a good coach one day. But he needs to come up through the ranks.
You know that, everyone here knows that. What’s scary is I don’t think Jerry cares about that.
Personally I dont care that McCarthy left, but even in all my negativity on Jones and the Cowboys I’d hope there’s a real move towards getting a HC who can get Dak settled back in and hiring damn good assistant coaches. But common sense says he’ll look at Witten, Moore, etc who have no business being HCs.

Reported number of years was the issue. Jerry probably offered 2 years with incentives and an Ozempic discount.

Number of years might have been the issue, but that's a disguised way of saying money was the issue.

Because what's the number of years to Jerry? It literally doesn't matter other than he'd have to pay him still if he fired him in 2 years if they gave him a longer term deal. That wouldn't affect the team at all but it would affect Jerry's pockets.

McCarthy probably wanted a 5 year deal like last time and like every coach gets, basically.

The Cowboys probably wanted a 2-3 year deal because they basically wanted to fire him this year but then couldn't when he ruined their draft positioning by winning a bunch of games down the stretch (which is, illogically, also what they wanted him to do, because they never embrace a tank like they should).

And the reason they wanted a 2-3 year deal is because they aren't convinced they won't have to fire him next season when they again fail to do anything of value in the offseason in regard to improving their personnel, and they don't want to have to buy out 4 more contract years, they only want to have to buy out 1 or 2.

So they'll get a new guy for much cheaper with no skins on the wall, who comes baked in with at least 2 year grace period to keep 'em off the J's ass, and because it'll be someone no one wants, they'll give him only a 4 year deal instead of 5, and again probably only have to buy out 1-2 years when this new guy also fails to reach even a Championship game.

They don't think it's that important.

Any one of 500 coaches, blah blah blah.

Who wouldn't be able to win with the great Dak Prescott and this amazing collection of skill we have?

We'll continue to vacillate back and forth between proven retread and unproven coordinator without ever getting it right.
I think we COULD win with Dak, with the right guys around him. It starts with the right HC and the right players, and both are in the grasp but Jones isn’t going to go there just as you pointed out.

Went back and listened to the Fan, and Bobby Belt actually threw out Doug Pedersen, plus Witten as a legitimate option. :lol :doh

The only thing surprising about this shitshow is that they announced it the same day as a playoff game.

One's an older guy with a title and the other's a HS coach with a long relationship with Jerry. Makes perfect sense.
