That said, if you fumble on simple runs straight up the middle and bounce routine balls, you have to be pulled like he was. And Hawkins does look good. I do think the game situation helped him some, but at least he wasn't making basic mistakes.

Those were the mistakes that were the final straw for me. The defense created huge turnovers for gimme points, the stadium is rocking, and on the very first play of the ensuing drives he pisses all the momentum away with grade school level mistakes.

Like you said, Hawkins at least looks like he can do the basic things. Like on his first series he threw a simple outlet pass to Deion Burks in the flats. It only went for something like a 7 yard gain but the ball was placed out in front of Burks so that he could catch the ball in stride and pick up YAC. I've watched Arnold throw that same pass throughout the season and almost every time the ball was wildly inaccurate.

When you don't know the names of half of your football team it really sucks.

One thing that never gets talked about is how these kids aren't developing strong networks anymore, which is immensely valuable once their playing careers are over. If you spend your college career bouncing from school to school, only spending 7-8 months at a school, who are you calling for alumni support and the "former player hookup".

Only 1% of these guys will end up going to the NFL but I've seen tons of these guys get great jobs and opportunities after college simply because they played at Blank University for 3 or 4 years.

But if you were only there for a few months hardly anyone is going to remember you. I don't think people are going to be as willing to slide these former players to the front of the line like they have in the past.

You no longer recruit and develop. Big time program? You don't have some 5 star kids waiting 2 years for his chance to play. So instead you have to just go pick up some Senior from another team to be your starting QB.

What it's really doing to making all these small school stars, big school stars in the blink of an eye. Which totally destroys the whole sign and develop process we have seen for so long. No big time recruit is going to sit and wait for his turn.

Yeah, I was in favor of these athletes getting paid and I still am, but this is not what I had in mind and now I don't think you can go back to how it was before.

If the NCAA hadn't been so selfish, greedy, and overly restrictive with what they allowed these student athletes to do in regards to making money for so long, we wouldn't be here now.

They should have just given these kids some stipends or compensation and been more flexible in what types of jobs they were allowed to have. They also should have let these guys make money off their likeness as well. Had they done that, everyone would have been happy.

But you know what happens when you allow a situation to reach an extreme level -- it results in an extreme reaction and extreme outcome.

That's precisely what's occurred here and it's ruined the sport in a lot of ways.

I'm sort of OK with it. The problem is when you combine the money AND let players switch teams at will. Used to at least be restrictions on transferring. But now if you find a three star gem and he becomes a really good player, he is leaving for Ohio State or Alabama.

The transfer portal bothers me more than players getting paid.

I'm fine with the money they're making but player movement needs to be reeled in.

I'm with you guys. I have a much bigger issue with the transfer portal than the money.

Looks like the new trend will be for universities to find creative ways to pass off NIL expenses to the fans.

Did you see that story about the University of Tennessee adding a 10% "talent fee" to the cost of tickets going forward?

That's only the first drop in the bucket, IMO.

He may only have a year of eligibility left with the reshirt. Looks like he played a few years at a small school. Didn't know anything about the guy but still pisses me off what he is doing.
