Those were the mistakes that were the final straw for me. The defense created huge turnovers for gimme points, the stadium is rocking, and on the very first play of the ensuing drives he pisses all the momentum away with grade school level mistakes.That said, if you fumble on simple runs straight up the middle and bounce routine balls, you have to be pulled like he was. And Hawkins does look good. I do think the game situation helped him some, but at least he wasn't making basic mistakes.
Like you said, Hawkins at least looks like he can do the basic things. Like on his first series he threw a simple outlet pass to Deion Burks in the flats. It only went for something like a 7 yard gain but the ball was placed out in front of Burks so that he could catch the ball in stride and pick up YAC. I've watched Arnold throw that same pass throughout the season and almost every time the ball was wildly inaccurate.
