Drop Derrick Henry in Dallas a few years ago and I bet you'd have seen the NFCC and Superbowl in Dallas, too.

I don’t believe that for a minute, mostly because we’d have to have a defense that doesn’t give up the goods when you can least afford it.

Believe what you want. Aside from this years meltdown, our defense was fine in the playoffs. If you don't think a prime Derrick Henry would have been a difference maker... cool.

And that is what some folks don’t get. He got pushed hard through the ranks and had one year as a DC. And that was with Romeo Crennel running the show as “assistant head coach”.
And Jones hired a DC fired as a HC because he had his ass handed to him in a SB.
Quinn had Seattle teams with a FO guy who went out and got real blue chip players to perform on D. It certainly could be argued it inflated his rep.
His D in Dallas played lights out against subpar teams but shit the bed against contenders.
Not sure we would be any better or any worse with Vrabel, but I bet we would have real DEs, DTs and LBers.
Jones is the wildcard in all of it because no matter if Quinn had stayed or Vrabel signed up, old PT is only buying groceries at the Five and Dime.

I never said he wouldn’t be a difference maker….but our D was and has been an issue in the playoffs.

I just don't see an external coach coming in here. We all know there's a great chance this is Mike's last year.
I think you're exactly right because of this point.

It's highly unlikely that a quality coach from the outside will be willing to take this job knowing there's a pretty good chance that he'll be out of job 12 months later.

And an "elite" QB that shits the bed when the brightest lights come on.
This was started by Simp saying if Dak was in Tennessee with Vrable, they’d have won. His reasoning for wanting Vrable over McCarthy.

Jerry might fire McCarthy but do you actually think he cleans house? I don't

Am I the only one not overly impressed with Vrabel, even just as a DC?

I get the toughness vibes that people are enamored with, but I don't get a sense that he's particularly impressive with Xs and Os.
I get what you're saying but at this point I think I'd prefer to try a coach who is heavy on the tough guy vibes and not as strong with the Xs and Os.

I'd even argue that you need that type of personality in Dallas to counter the bullshit environment that Jerry has created.

Historically the Cowboys have done really well with head coaches who brought discipline and toughness to the table. Landry, Jimmy, and Parcells. The thing that mostly held Parcells back was he didn't have QB. He only got about 3-4 months of Romo and had an old beat up Drew Bledsoe. I would've loved to have him stay in Dallas for two more years to see where things would have went.

You can find assistant coaches who are strong X & O guys, but I really do believe it's time to try the tough guy approach again to really change the culture within the locker room.

I'd agree the team needs to be tougher but I don't like when coaches think that's all there is to football. The "beat your man in front of you" mentality without coaching strategy generally is a recipe for failure.

I'm not trying to hate on Vrabel but I do think he's been overrated and I don't think there's much factual argument for Vrabel over McCarthy other than their relative QBs and that's speculative (keep in mind McCarthy has a pretty good track record with backup QBs and Tannehill had a couple of nice seasons so he wasn't complete dogshit).

I think its one thing if he has a big money contract that he doesn't want to eat, or a family member he doesn't want to send upstate. As of now, Jerry's in a position to put a band-aid on it for next year and go into 2025 with far fewer financial obligations and a HC job that is more attractive.

So I have no doubt that Zimmer is about to get a multi-year offer.

I would go with all that but McCarthys play-calling, prep and offense in the playoff game were putrid. 12 wins are great and all that but getting your ass handed to you by the Packers who backed their way into the playoffs took some of his shine off.
