Here's what I think happened.

The stories were true that we were locked in on Kincaid and it completely frazzled the retards in management when Buffalo stole him.

There was no one at the pick they really wanted after he was gone, couldn't find anyone to trade out with and Mazi was a panic pick.

Then after a run on all the TEs, we were left to make huge reach on a 25 year old who was basically a nobody in college.

The real question is with Turd already on the roster, why the fuck were they so hellbent on TE?

Some years, you think these guys have figured out the draft and then they just have years like 2023 where they shit the bed.

Turd replaced Schultz and Schoon replaced Turd as #2.
These fucktards have a remarkable history of not having any clue how to run 12 personnel while wasting 2nd rounders on TE2.

I can't fathom why it was such a high priority to get a TE2.

Draft history says they do much better picking TEs in the middle rounds (Shultz, Turd, Witten) instead of reaching in the second (Poon, Escobar, Bennett)

Except there's actual footage from the war room and we never discussed Kincaid from what I saw.

I think the debate was between Avila and Mazi.

I think they honestly thought that drafting a good blocking TE would help the run game.

I think they thought they could get LaPorta in the second round. He didn't last. So they took whatever TE was the top of their board and at that point it was Schoon. They locked in on a position in that round because they thought TE would be a stellar position in the second round. It's these deviations from the best available that drive me nuts. We didn't have to have a TE. But it was a strong TE class and we were convinced that we needed a guy in the second round.

I can speak to that a little bit as I used to feel the same way. I think I've been on this board lurking for about as long as it's existed. I can remember being over at the Zone and thinking what the hell happened to all of the good posters.

I didn't play football growing up, but I learned a ton about the game from just reading things here. That alone kept me from speaking up too much until a few years ago. This place will call you on your stupid shit, which is one of the things that makes it so great to participate in. I definitely lost my rose colored glasses a long time ago and can understand why the same thing repeats itself every year, just from reading people's views here. Nothing changes, if nothing changes.

If I had to wade through all of the endless garbage on the Zone, I wouldn't do it. If I go there, about the only thing I do is read SBK's posts. Because as much of a dick as he could be, I think he had interesting thoughts on football. I think EZ was a dick too, without as much football knowledge. Those two definitely had an impact on how much I was posting back then.

That was kind of rambling, but you asked...
This board has changed a bit over the years. I can understand how people back in the day could consider it intimidating (shit I got banned 3 times), but things have changed up top and we are a welcoming board as long as you aren't a troll or a complete moron. I'm really glad you started posting. You contribute a lot of content to this board, and I appreciate you for it.

Oh, and you won't find a smarter group of football fans than right here on this board.

It's further evidence that taking the BPA is the best philosophy in a league where so little separates the great teams from the poor ones, at least talent-wise.

I remember posting a handful of times under a different name, literally two or three posts and nothing remotely controversial, and SBK jumped all over me and got plenty of hahas and encouragement for it. So yeah, I kind of get it. Not that I was "intimidated" by words on a screen exactly, but the message was that we don't like strangers around here.

:lol What year was considered the "special teams draft"? 2009?

I don't know which is dumber.....blocking TEs in the second or an entire draft dedicated to backups.

Yes, 09 I think. That was insane.

I'll gladly sacrifice the 2nd round if they make up for it with the rest of the picks.

A whole draft of basically backups is ridiculous.

He was the second choice behind Mazi apparently, which is why I think we'll take someone like Morgan, Fautanu or Barton this year.
Barton makes a lot of sense even though the term "versatile" pisses me off with a first round draft pick on the O-line. I think he is really good. And maybe he is the center or guard of our dreams.
