Yea, I mean I keep going back to last year's playoffs, everyone rightly expected SF to completely overrun our defense because we had several games similar to the one yesterday where the run defense got abused up and down the field.

Then we get into the playoffs and the defense plays lights out in both games, including against SF at full strength on the road.

For whatever reason it seems that Quinn and the defense are prone to these sorts of shit performances a few times a year and then once they get humbled and right their heads they respond well.
I was about to ask if we can all agree that Quinn did a pretty shitty coaching job yesterday. True Micah wasn’t a factor in stopping the run but did Quinn put him in position to stop the run?

Maybe. Probably. Try all-out blitzes, try something different?

But when you got no knife, can’t coach spoons to cut a steak.

It just feels like a whole lot hindsight right now, nobody at the time thought "hey, wow this might be the NFC favorite" because they lost a close one in that game.

Like I said, if we were playing the 49ers in the finale at home this year and lost a close one, while losing twice to the Eagles by 10+ and being blown out a few other times, something tells me you wouldn't be puffing your chest out about it.

The point is that they actually demonstrated the ability to beat top teams, and we have not. Comparing us to them is silly.

So now we have two here who had the Giants pegged to win it all because they lost a close ballgame to the Pats.

I’m calling bullshit!
What?

How the hell did you get that from what either of us said?

I simply agree with Geng that that last game of the season was not meaningless to either team.

They both played to win.

Where the fuck did you get "I knew the Giants would be Superbowl champions" from what either of us said?

Yep. Not a lot of pressure at all last night, and it really didn’t matter since you had one damn guy put up over 200 yards of offense on the ground by himself. And, this isn’t an anomaly- it’s happened numerous times when we needed a game or were in a playoff game.
What’s hilarious is the media never once asked PT Barnum why he refuses to address the deficiencies at NT, the DL, and another pressure player at DE.
Everyone professes to the world over how “elite” the D is….but are they really that good?? When you give up that kind of yardage to a RB, can’t get to the QB, you can’t be considered elite.
Does a poor performance by Quinn's defense drop his stock as a future HC candidate?

They played to win but there were no stakes for the Giants besides being the plucky underdog trying to ruin a 16-0 season, it's easy to play well when you're free and loose with no stakes. That gave them confidence obviously but like I said, it all feels like hindsight, I don't think anybody here would be claiming we're Super Bowl favorites if we had a similar set of circumstances.

If the Cowboys were undefeated, they still wouldn’t. What’s your point?
My point is that it’s too early to declare to anyone that the Cowboys have moved into a championship caliber team as some have because they were beating up on some teams without consideration as to the caliber of the competition as some have including the media. The only thing at this point that is certain is they have now attained a place in the playoffs but even with that advent, haven’t finished a schedule that could still shed doubts on their ability. No one on this board has been a fan longer than me and I don’t like having to bring up negative things about the team but they are still a work in progress as to whether they can actually compete on the level that is a steep curve for the remaining season and then the playoffs. The same goes for Dak. I’m not sure yet that he can handle adversity to the extent that he will have to endure because his tendencies are to lock up under pressure. Finally, I am a wait and see person and this circumstance certainly warrants that posture all things considered.

So after they took the pats to the wire, you had them winning the Superbowl??

Cmon now.

That's not the point. The point is it's silly to try to compare them now.

That Giants team showed signs that they could hang with the heavyweights. This Cowboys team not so much.

Cmon now.

Is reading comprehension an issue for you?

No one is saying "at the time".

YOU are comparing them now, so it's more than fair to look back on them NOW and see if they showed signs that they might have more potential than it might have seemed.

And they sure did.

We have not.

If we were even close to SF and Buffalo it might be an apt comparison. But alas.

I think you should look at it the other way around.

The Giants had no stakes so it would have been really easy for them to give up early. But they didn't.

That alone is a mark of a championship mentality.

I wish we had that.
