Amen. This is the way.

The worst part of yesterday was how the team couldn't stop a nosebleed and almost looked like they quit. That's obviously unacceptable. But if it was a one-off and they can beat a very good Miami team, it'll be okay. Good news is they usually play well after being told they suck all week. I'm actually kind of surprised they haven't laid an egg lately after everyone blowing smoke up their asses the last several weeks in a row.
Yea, I mean it happened against Arizona, it happened several times last year, the defense has these types of games intermittently but they usually step back up.

They need to respond against Miami though just out of principle. I don't think winning the division is especially likely either way but they have to prove to themselves that they can win on the road against a decent opponent, or at least play well.

If they lose a close one where they play well similar to the first Eagles game, fine, but they can't come out and get boat raced up and down the field again, ticky tack penalties or not.

It meant nothing to the Giants and they basically decided to go out and play for the hell of it because of the circumstances, that one performance doesn't outweigh the fact that we killed them twice and they lost several other embarrassing games.

If the Eagles had beaten us twice this year, convincingly, and the rest of the season went like it did (Arizona loss, yesterday's blowout), would you feel really swell if we played the 49ers close at home in the season finale (but lost) in a game that made no difference to us?

I seriously doubt it.
The difference between the Smurfs that beat the undefeated Patriots and the Cowboys of today is they took a near impossible to defend offense and reduced to a pile of shit… the Smurfs actually had a defense .. tough ..hard -nosed and could stop the run and put pressure on Brady bunch . They didn’t commit stupid penalties.
We unfortunately are the exact opposite…we get punked in the run game because of our under sized linebackers …we commit dumb elementary penalties to extend drives… bottom line: we can’t win unless we force multiple turnovers.. it’s feast or famine

Apparently, the way that this past weekend’s W-L went down, it worsened our Opponent Strength so Eagles now own that tiebreaker even with Seahawks loss tonight.

Said another way, Seahawks win tonight, Eagles still division leader.

We need an Eagles division loss.

This truly demonstrates how bad our run defense was without Hankins.

The defense is not designed to stop the run to begin with and when one guy goes down, our other tackles can't handle it and we have to depend on safeties playing linebacker. It's not a good look when the LOS is lost like that.

I don't think Hankins being around to play 40% of the snaps would've made much difference, the entire defense was discombobulated and running around like idiots against the run, overrunning their gaps, opening up big cut back lanes and so forth. It looked exactly like the Arizona game earlier in the year honestly.

In a relatively meaningless week 17 game, after getting boatraced by us twice and losing a few other games in even more embarrasing fashion.

I think the overarching point is that we know we're one of the best teams in the league and if we get hot and have a bit of luck we could easily go all the way. The unfortunate thing is having to play on the road obviously hurts our chances, but as you said, winning 12-14 games in a row was never a realistic thing. Just gotta hope the Eagles somehow slip up against the Giants or that one of these wild card teams can pop up and upset someone like the Eagles or Lions in the first round so we can avoid going to SF.

It's obviously just as likely, probably more so, that we get bounced in the divisional round again, but that doesn't change the fact that this is one of the better teams in the league and we're kind of just getting screwed the last two years by what the Eagles have done which has forced us into being a wild card with an outlier record.

That doesn't mean tear it all down because "30 years, can't win on the road", blah, blah, blah, you just gotta keep putting yourself in that position where you're winning 12-13 games and hope that the seeding/circumstances fall your way.
I think this is exactly right. The more the team puts itself in this position the more comfortable they will be. I think the odds of the Eagles outperforming again next year are slim and we can hope we get a run of luck that includes playing a sub-par division opponent in the divisional round and a team on their emergency QB in the NFCC.

I'd like to say that we shouldn't need luck or HFA but after almost 30 years we need something to fall our way to break through.

I think the biggest problem is up front, because Mazi is useless and Gallimore is pretty bad. Golston tries, but he's a blown up former lanky end.

But also, this 4-2-5 was never meant to stop the run. Clark stunk and Bell finally played like a 214 pounder. I'm not his biggest fan, but yesterday we really missed LVE for that style game. And Overshown moves like a safety, but he is 230 lbs. Yesterday the injuries at LB finally bit us.

Bottom line, our front 7 (or 6) are just too small. Have to make up for it with effort and technique, which wasn't there yesterday.

Philosophically they definitely look to make up for their deficiencies with speed and technique, and also by dictating the flow of the game. Often times this works but if the focus isn't 100% there or if they're not as up for the game for whatever reason it can go sideways real quick.

We've seen it happen several times a year the last two years, but we also know what they're capable of when they bounce back.

Agree on that. It was just a bad effort all the way around. Too light with the safeties playing LB in the box. Need to have bigger guys out there in running situations or teams will just steamroll us with or without Hankins.

We are a much better team with the lead for sure, but we have to put up a fight against the run. As the game wore on it looked like the defense didn't even want to or try to tackle because they were cold and wet and they said screw it. Not a good look and I hope Quinn let them know about it.

Yea, I mean I keep going back to last year's playoffs, everyone rightly expected SF to completely overrun our defense because we had several games similar to the one yesterday where the run defense got abused up and down the field.

Then we get into the playoffs and the defense plays lights out in both games, including against SF at full strength on the road.

For whatever reason it seems that Quinn and the defense are prone to these sorts of shit performances a few times a year and then once they get humbled and right their heads they respond well.

this team also seems to do better when people aren’t praising them. They might need the us against the world.
