On Tolbert... I've been hard on him in the past, but I'm really proud of him for toughening up and stepping up. I noticed they took him off gunner duty yesterday (for Brooks), probably because they knew he'd have to play substantial snaps at WR. And/or maybe he already passed that test they were putting him through.

Really hope they continue to feed him more if and when we have comfortable leads, because we'll need him at some point later in the year in bigger and tougher games.

Williams is literally a top 3 DT in the league, behind only Donald and Chris Jones (maybe), and Bass is a rookie UDFA in his second game.

The fact that our offense wasn't completely incapacitated is a huge accomplishment for Bass.
I only recall one play and it was just a blowm assignment.

This is starting to irritate me now. All of these stupid musings can be answered by realizing that the Jets only ran 40 something plays.
And we had a big lead most of the game, so knowing the other team has to throw the ball, maybe safeties are naturally going to play more than LBs?

Yep, and I noticed he had a few solid blocks as well. Really nice turnaround from him, he's a different player. He looked so overwhelmed last season. He looks like he belongs now.

Yep, exactly. And a lot of this is dictated by the offensive personnel too, so if the Jets are running a lot of 3 and 4 WR sets we're going to play DBs more.

I wonder if any part of Jerry realizes how stupid it was to think Kellen was the next genius and/or how he had to keep him in place because he was so tight with Dak. Yes, better late than never. But like you said, what a shame that it took this long.
I never liked or understood the logic of bringing Kellen Moore onto the coaching staff to begin with.

Back in 2018 when he was given the QB coach job I said it was the typical dumb Jerry Jones decision. Dak was coming off a year where he regressed (2017) and he was still a fairly young QB. I thought he needed a veteran QB coach in his ear to help him get back on track. Not his former QB room buddy.

It's little stuff of that nature that continues to put us behind the 8-ball.

Random thoughts:

-I think any and all complaining about Tolbert can be put to rest, he isn't a grand slam hit of a pick but he looks like a solid contributor as a WR3/4. You probably never want him as your WR2 but he isn't a bust.
-The offensive design is so much more pragmatic and mature now, it's not perfect but I'm taking this every day of the week over Moore's demented version of Garrett's offense. It's just a shame that it took until year 8 for Dak to get the opportunity.
-Our screen game is probably the best I've ever seen it. It feels like Cowboys fans have been wondering why we can't execute a screen like the rest of the league for the last 30 years but that's seemingly over now.
-Most of us have been saying for a while that we need a short yardage/goal line type back, still true.
-If we had played this game under Garrett, against that defense, with just a 18-10 lead at halftime and playing our 3rd string LG the rest of the way, I'm not sure it's a win. I'm definitely sure it isn't as comfortable a win.
-If Gallup continues like this there's no way we can keep him at his salary, he either takes a huge pay cut (half) or has to go. We need that money to resign someone like Biadasz or Armstrong (don't @ me booze).
-Second week in a row Biadasz recovers a fumble by hustling after the play, I'm not sure it was actually a fumble since I was at the game but that's impressive from him.
-They gotta get Lamb locked up ASAP because the price is only going up now that he's in an offense that manufactures easy catches for him.
-Parsons the God.
Underscore all of these points. I think Moore would have struggled to scheme CeeDee Lamb free vs a defense like the Jets' let alone have put him in position to dominate the way Schottenheimer and McCarthy did yesterday.

I am also very impressed with Dak Prescott's apparent growth this year because normally an 8 year vet just doesn't change a lot, but Prescott has made subtle modifications that have him patiently and (mostly) accurately attacking the open guy in the intermediate field first but rapidly cycling through to his last option almost immediately.

He never seemed to try and overreach, and it very well could have gone wrong vs the Jet secondary.

McCarthy is seriously on a pace for COY, IMO, the way he and the coaches have this team ready to play.

We pretty much know he would have. Remember all those years of being frustrated that other teams schemed their best players open while we had to settle for Garrett's junior high "If he's covered we just go to the next guy" philosophy?

That stupid ass game against Arizona in 2021 late in the year in Dallas jumps to mind. Arizona had a good defense and made the playoffs that year but they were nowhere near dominant and got railroaded by the Rams in the first round of the playoffs.

Our offense looked like it had literally no clue how to do anything that game, and it continued on into the playoffs against the 49ers.

There's no God damn chance Moore would've had the offense humming along from the first drive like it was yesterday

Makes you wonder how frustrated Mike must have been the last few years watching Kellen have total control. Yes, he signed on the dotted line and all that, but it had to be tearing him up inside to have to sit and watch with very little say.

He/we stood no chance against a good defense.

And after each SF loss he would probably look at Jerry as if to say, you’re killing me here, Smalls.

See, this is what makes how they've run the team for so long that much more frustrating.

Contrary to popular belief, Jerry end Stephen aren't blind idiots that don't recognize or understand football concepts.

They know just as much as any intelligent fan does. That's why despite Jerry making comments about how uncomfortable he was around Parcells and saying it was like "walking on eggshells", he still wanted to extend his contract and was disappointed when he didn't come back for 2007.

And that's because for all his meddling, arrogance, and stubbornness, he recognizes when the team is playing well or when they're doing things better than before or when decisions that the HC is making are paying off.

And that's how McCarthy has earned more and more of his trust and is gaining more credibility with them with each passing season.

I say all that to say this -- Jerry and Stephen have known full well all this time when we've had poor coaching but they stuck with it anyway because they enjoyed the dynamic of the organization too much to want to make a change.

So what if we keep missing the playoffs? We get to make all the decisions with little to no pushback from our coaching staff!

I hope that Stephen is at least learning from both this experience and the shitty decade we spent with Garrett and realizes that coaching absolutely matters. And when the day comes that McCarthy is no longer the coach, he'll want to replace him with another good HC and not some pet cat or spineless dummy just happy to have the job like the majority of the coaches during their ownership.
