MNF in general sucks now. They really messed up letting Al Michaels go

I don't think they let him go, per se.

When NBC won the Sunday night football rights, they were awarded the premier night game of the week and they essentially swapped places with ESPN.

Sunday night went from the shitty game of the week to Monday night and vice versa. So since ESPN/ABC no longer had the premier game, they didn't need the premier coverage.
