The background wallpaper on the official site had Ware on it last night. Now changed to Bryant.

I guess so. I just don't see how any of this is anything other than Jerry's fault. Can't blame Ware, and you damn sure can't blame Romo. That's just silly.

Agreed. I hate to see the guy go but it was a move that needed to be made.

I'm shocked that Jerry actually had the common sense to actually pull the trigger on the move. Normally he gets too attached to his star players an holds on to them for 2 years too long.
 
The most shocking thing about Ware's release is the fact he was Jerry's one shining moment. Where he made the call over Parcells, and not only got the call right, but ended up with a HOF caliber player. I would have bet Jerry would hang on to him to the bitter end.

If this means extending Spencer and Hatcher is coming, this cut will end up being a bad thing. Don't make a smart call end up being a CF by extending those two. A position of weakness just got weaker.

DeMarcus Ware believes he can make more money in free agency than the Cowboys are willing to pay, but is open to returning to the club if the market doesn’t support his stance, a source said.

Call it a trial separation.

Ware and owner Jerry Jones met Tuesday at Valley Ranch in an attempt to avoid the player’s release. That didn’t happen. But a source with knowledge of the discussion said the two men parted with this understanding:

Ware knows to get the sort of contract he expects the offer will likely come in the first few days of free agency. If that offer doesn’t come he has told the Cowboys he would be willing to return. The source said Ware also indicated that before he signs with another team he will inform the Cowboys of the offer.

The Cowboys will leave the door open. The club has told the seven-time Pro Bowler they want him on the roster in 2014 but at a base salary significantly less than the $12.25 million he was scheduled to receive.

The source stressed that neither side has ruled out that they will be able to find an acceptable middle ground. Owner Jerry Jones acknowledged as much in the release the club issued Tuesday afternoon announcing Ware’s release.

“DeMarcus and I agreed on an understanding that would allow him to explore the options he will have for the 2014 season and beyond,’’ Jones said. “We were also in very strong agreement that playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be one of the options we would both be exploring.’’

It will not be a prolonged exploration. Both sides recognize the need to move swiftly. If Ware doesn’t return, the Cowboys must use the $7.4 million freed up by Ware’s release and the $1.1 million it already had to find his replacements at defensive end.

The relationship may continue. But for now, the two have parted ways.
 
Ware had to be cut. It wasn't about cap mismanagement. It was about a player whose salary exceeded his production. When that happens the player either has to take a pay cut or get cut. I guess you could argue that Dallas should have never given him that contract in the first place but this move is actually good cap management by the Cowboys. I don't blame Ware either, if he can get more money on the free agent market then good for him. Go get it.

The cut wasn't a bad thing, period. Now if we extend Spencer and Hatcher it would all depend on the money that we use. I don't think you can group the two decisions together and say as a whole it was a bad move, because cutting Ware was the right move.

Unless they are offering a crazy deal it makes sense. You can't have too many pass rushers and he could be productive again IMO if he is in a rotation.
 
Didn't say it was a bad call, but I said don't make a good move a bad move by signing an injured player and a player who only had one good season. I don't think you can separate the two decisions,to me it would look like the cut was made to extend those two. It's worrisome to me.

I'm getting a kick out of these clueless "analysts" on NFL Network who still claim Ware is the Cowboys best defensive player.

Yeah, maybe 2 years ago.

Ware has been an average player for about a year and a half now.

If your "best" defensive player's final stat line on game day consistently reads 2 tackles, 0 sacks, 1 QB pressure.....it may be time to look for an upgrade.
