It does pertain the League and the Ravens knowing more than they said, but it also is about how Goodell is aligned with certain teams/owners and protects them while going after other teams that are not aligned with those owners. It goes into Spygate and Bountygate and other incidents.

That is bigger issue than the Ray Rice alone and thus why I gave it a separate thread.

In the Bisciotti PC, he said that he would employ Rice in a player developmental role, but not as a player.

Bisciotti says no one at Ravens will lose job

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti met with the media on Monday, roughly 15 minutes after the Ravens disseminated a thorough, detailed response to the ESPN report accusing the Ravens of mishandling the Ray Rice case.

The press conference would have been a lot more efficient if the release had come sooner. At one point, Bisciotti reminded someone off camera that Bisciotti had suggested sending it out sooner.

As to the Rice situation, Bisciotti said plenty of things. Most importantly, he said that no members of the organization will lose their jobs as a result of the Rice investigation.

He also attributed much of the ESPN report to sources with ties to Rice, and the agendas that naturally flow from it.

“The majority of the sources are people who work for Ray,” Bisciotti said. “It’s Ray’s attorney, it’s Ray’s agents, and Ray’s friends.”

Bisciotti attributed the comments to a simple motivation.

“They are building a case for reinstatement,” Bisciotti said. “The best way to build a case for reinstatement is to make everyone else make look like they were lying.”

Bisciotti also pointed out that ESPN worked on the report for 11 days, but gave the Ravens only a couple of hours to respond to ESPN’s questions before publication. He questioned whether ESPN was even concerned about the team’s position, claiming that co-author Kevin Van Valkenburg teased a “bombshell” report on Twitter before the report was published.

Bisciotti also disputed the notion that he offered future employment to Rice as “hush money” aimed at getting Rice to go along with the notion that Rice had lied to the team about what he did.

Bisciotti vowed that changes will be made if/when future situations like this arise in the future, and that he harbors no animosity toward the league for its handling of this situation. But he said that, if the league handles a similar case in the same way in the future, he’d lose faith in the league’s ability to address such issues.
 
 
Bisciotti seems like a total scumbag in this press conference. IMO, the NFL needs to clean house if they really want to stop this firestorm. Force Bisciotti to sell and replace Goodell.

I agree, but I think I agree mainly because I'm biased and want Goodell gone at whatever cost.

Not really sure what you're asking, but if it's why Bisciotti came off as a scumbag, there are a ton of reasons. He said that Janay Rice is the victim "because she has an unemployed husband". No, she's a victim because she got punched and knocked out by her husband (then fiancee). He claimed that if they had a zero tolerance policy, then you would have unscrupulous woman blackmailing NFL players. He flat out admitted that he's not "honorable" enough to have levied a harsher punishment to Rice. He said that it never crossed his mind to try to acquire the elevator video because he had no desire to see it. He basically just oozed sleazeball with every sentence that came out of his mouth.

He may well be a scumbag but you can't take people's possessions for being a scumbag.

Bill Simmons is suspended by ESPN about his comments on Goodell. I know he'll get props for calling him out, but he was clearly asking for ESPN to do something to him and he got it. I find him to be a complete blowhard anyways...and wonder what he is thinking in going at ESPN like he did. No other place would give him the platform he has with his own website and his coverage of the NBA. He's edgy though...so he's got that going for him.

I think he wants to go independent when his contract is up and is using this to build up his reputation. By forcing his management to suspend him for saying the same thing everyone else not on the ESPN payroll is saying he gets everyone on his side. The only other way this makes sense is if he got told right before recording that he wasn't allowed to comment on it and he did it out of spite, but that isn't really like him.

What he said was not all that different from what most at ESPN has said, but he dared them to punish him. If he wants to go out on his own, good luck...but he will never get the exposure he gets on NBA Countdown and the push he gets from espn.com.
