The source said that Rice admitted to the Ravens from the start that he was guilty of striking Janay and, for the most part, accurately described what they eventually saw on the video. But the brutality of the assault when seen on the security video made a different impression.

This is so fucking stupid right here. As I said before, why is it worse today than when it actually happened? Is the visual that damn bad? Or are you that stupid that you didn't know he smacked the hell out of her?

So, you knew he struck her all along, which you didn't need him to admit to in order to know that, but he still did which means he didn't attempt to hide anything, and yet all of that was ok until you saw it?

Yeah this is dumb as hell. If Rice did indeed accurately explain what happened in the elevator then the NFL should have stuck with their light-assed 2 game suspension.

What's next, if videos of traffic cams are leaked will Brent be suspended indefinitely.

Goodell needs to resign.

Exactly.

Even if no other evidence came out, and even if Ray Rice lied, anyone with half a brain knew that he had to have struck her violently in order to knock her unconscious.....it's fricking common sense.

But given the facts, it sounds as if all parties involved knew exactly what happened and had accepted it and decided to move on with the punishment while supporting the player and his wife.

But seeing the video changes it? How? For me, that video doesn't reveal anything, it simply confirms it.

What, exactly, did Goodell believe happened in that elevator? Didn't he realize the confrontation had to be at least as ugly and one-sided as it turned out to be? Wasn't the image on the first video -- of Rice dumping the unconscious Janay on her face -- enough to convince him the player had committed a violent act against a woman and needed to be severely punished?

Couldn't really tell by that video, but I'd guess that from shot she took from Rice and the one from the hand rail, there was probably some swelling going on. I've seen people swell up instantly like the elephant man from stuff like that.

Well yea, but that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about making that assumption after the video being released of her being unconscious coupled with his admission that he struck her.

How could you possibly come to any other conclusion other than he struck her violently after that?

Her face is on the ground, so her face was not real visible. I'm just saying, more often than not there are drunk people coming out of elevators in places like that. Read something earlier where the casino employee asked if she was drunk.

Yeah, I can certainly see that, and it would be my first impression too. I was more talking along the lines of the people there seeing her all swollen up once they were close enough to see. You'd think they would have reported that.

Yea, if you're there and you just see this woman lying on the ground out of the elevator, you're not going to automatically assume that she was struck.

When I say they had to know what happened, I'm talking about Goodell, the NFL's investigative team, and the Ravens. They didn't just have a vid of a woman laying on the ground to go on, they had an admission from Ray Rice that that he struck her.

No one from the aforementioned parties should be pretending like they didn't know it was that bad or whatever. Even if they didn't see it, they knew because it doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

I could see Goodell going down for this. Adam Schefter stepped out of his normal role of benign NFL-approved "insider" and more or less called out NFL officials for lying about their access to the tape and making him and others look stupid.

The NFL enjoys a pretty cozy deal with these "journalists" who are given insider access in exchange for promoting the league and never really rocking the boat. If that deal sours, it could be pretty damaging.

The sad part is that you end up with a burst of feigned moral outrage, an outcry for change and then... wait for it... no actual effort to change the issue that brought about such an outcry in the first place.

The social media & instant information age has made it incredibly satisfying to rabble at something that, truthfully, you really don't care about.

You have millions of people who don't care about football or the Rice family, voicing outrage on a scale that pushes the NFL, the Ravens and media pundits to do everything they can possibly think of to demonize Rice, speak towards zero-tolerance policies for domestic violence and cater to the short-lived rage of a collective of people that will move on to the next outrage within 2-3 days, barring another juicy detail.

I don't know if I'm articulating it very well. It's all just so... fake. Feigned and exaggerated outrage. Feigned and exaggerated contrition. Posturing on all fronts.

Rice did something violent and stupid. I agree with the Ravens disassociating with him. I don't agree with the NFL suspending him - no other team is going to sign him in this climate anyway, let the justice system punish crime.

Just a really stupid situation. I'm hoping it dies down by next weekend. Watching the double header last night, I spent six hours constantly being reminded that - despite the, you know, FOOTBALL - going on on my television... the real story was that a man punched a woman on an elevator.

I can only watch football personalities awkwardly talk about domestic violence for so long. So yeah, here's hoping that by the time Sunday rolls around, most of the outrage machine has moved on.

No I think you're about right. Watching fat middle aged white guys burning their Rice jerseys in their driveways is pretty creepy. They had no outrage before. Their outrage stems from the fact that he won't be playing now.
