Are we supposed to believe he would have signed for less if he was on another team?

I think so. Right now we are negotiating against ourselves. Allow him to test the market and others teams probably aren't going to go near that high for that length of time.

But as always, Jerry is constantly in panic mode and there's no way he'd take that chance.

Allow him to test the market, he says...

:lol

A LT with his talent and still young? Yeah, I think he would have similar offers somewhere else.

Why not? If you're going to have $110M in your back pocket to offer him, might as well go to the market and see if the number lowers. Worst case scenario is teams start getting close to that and you give it to him then.

Or he takes that offer and we have Parnell at LT.

He may be the best LT in the NFL right now...his price would only go up. I'll take it.

That is hardly the worst case scenario. If he continues to play like he has, do you think no team would come in higher than that in a couple more years? If so, you're fooling yourself.

Right. Some team comes in and offers him more, is he going to come back for what we offered? Highly doubtful. We just get to pay more if we want to keep him.

If he plays out this contract, he'll only be 32 years old. If he stays healthy, in all likely hood he could sign/hit free agency for one more long term, big money contract after this one. Unreal.

I'm betting they'll redo the contract after 5 years and he'll hit the lottery again at around 28 years old.

That's less per year than Peterson and less guaranteed money despite the longer contract, I'll take it. He could be the best LT in the league this season at the age of 23, paying a guy like that 13-14 a year with only a 10 million bonus is not a big deal.

I assume most of that 40 million guaranteed will be eaten up over the first few years of the deal and then if for whatever reason we want to cut him at the age of 30 or whatever the cap hit will be minimal since the signing bonus is only 10 million.

On the other hand I'm sure we will restructure and push prorated money onto the back end of the deal but at the moment I can't complain at all about giving a guy this good at his age/position this kind of money with only a 10 million bonus.

Yeah that's the right scenario for Jones to set up a deal that gets him burned.

And just so you guys know, we're going to have to pay Dez at least 13-14 a year. I'm thinking something around 6 years, 90 million, 35-40 guaranteed.

What I don't like is what position these deals will put us in in 4-5 years, which would hopefully be when Romo's replacement is earning his 2nd deal.

I think you are giving this front office way too much credit to find Romo's replacement any time in the near future.

The Bank of Tyron will be used in a few years, no doubt.

At any rate, if he stays healthy, this is a decent enough deal. You are going to pay for a top 10 tackle in this league. Might as well make it on a very very young one who is only going to get better.

You are worried about the qb but not the guy protecting him? In 4-5 years they should be able to do something with Romos contract.

:towel

Great for this team. About the only building block we can count on, and a strong one at that.

Yep. A few years from now, when Tyron is all of 26 this deal is going to look like a bargain.

Yeah, Zach Martin is older than him. Crazy.

I'm not seeing where this will be an issue in 4-5 years. The cap hit is pretty standard for a Top 5 LT in the NFL. Years 1-4 are for less than $5M a year.....
