What's wrong with homers?
I thought approximately a year ago, after working on this guy since 2005, that he had finally succumbed to the dark side.
Clearly, I was mistaken and there is still work to be done.

Not exactly, but I have heard guys like Favre, Marino, Manning etc. give pub to non-household guys just to prop them. Romo could use a little of that...it is part of being a leader who also happens to play QB in the NFL. Sometimes you have to work the troops.

I don't think Romo is ever going to really get that aspect of the position. Just isn't in his nature unless it's gushing over his bff Witten.
On the other hand, maybe he's just keeping with Garrett's admonition to keep interviews boring and brief -- which would be a pretty good idea from the team's perspective if Jerry didn't constantly jump in and explode the whole concept with his never ending comments.

Yeah, I don't think Romo has that in him to say this is MY TEAM, these are MY GUYS and will work them as he sees fit. Honestly, that's the kind of QB that it is going to take in Dallas to win. There is so much other noise and distraction the alpha male of the team has to be even bigger than that.

Camp observations: Two-minute work brings out D

OXNARD, Calif. – Day 4 of Cowboys’ training camp brought the most competitive part of a practice with two-minute and final-minute situations.
The first-team offense had a drive end on an interception and a game-winning field goal byDan Bailey. The second-team offense had its lone drive end on a pick by rookie cornerbackB.W. Webb.
** WR Dez Bryant was not pleased with the defense after LB Ernie Sims hit TE Dante Rosario so hard that the tight end’s helmet came off. Bryant screamed to the defense for all to hear, causing some defenders to yell back.
** The defense got off to a 5-nil start in the one-on-one drills, as coach Jason Garrett was quick to let everybody know Brandon Carr threw off Dez Bryant; Morris Claiborne stuffedMiles Austin; Sterling Moore did the same to Dwayne Harris, Devin Smith stayed withTerrance Williams and Anthony Armstrong had a drop.
** Williams, the third-round pick, had the prettiest of routes later in the one-on-one period, with a perfect stutter-go-stop that gave him 5 yards of space from Smith for the easy catch.
** G David Arkin still has trouble anchoring when he faces power moves. DE Ben Basssimply extended his arms and rocked Arkin back on their first rep in one-on-one pass rush moves. G Kevin Kowalski did a nice job of stunting DT Jason Hatcher on his first rep.
** After missing his first kick on Tuesday, Dan Bailey made all six on Wednesday, ranging from 40-47 yards. He is 16 of 17 in camp.
** Rookie P Spencer Barton handled all of the punts and was forced to kick into a pretty good wind. His first punt was knocked down after maybe 15 yards. Maybe. He had a hard time driving the ball into the breeze. With the wind, he was much better.
** WR Dwayne Harris was a terrific punt returner by the end of last season and he was able to break free to the right on his one try. Harris received a nice wall from his blockers that left him one on one with Barton.
** S Barry Church missed all but three games last year because of an Achilles injury. He must like the pads because he met RB DeMarco Murray two or three times with some semi-big hits.
** LB Sean Lee seems to break up at least one pass in every practice. He swatted away a seam pass to TE Jason Witten from Tony Romo; on Tuesday he stuck with WR Miles Austin down the seam for a breakup.
** Romo over-shot Witten on a seam throw in seven-on-seven drills. Witten bent his route to the outside and when LB Justin Durant moved to the outside Witten came back inside. The throw, however, was high.
** The offense went with the hurry up a few times in team drills and caught the defense by surprise. Some of it might have been the defense’s sub patterns, but when the offense picked up the tempo a few times for specific plays they were able to make positive yards.

Jerry Jones rushes out of practice

OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones wasn't talkative when reporters followed him after Wednesday's practice.
Jones allowed for only one question to be asked, about his concern for defensive tackle Jay Ratliff missing this week and most likely next week's practices.
"Well, I'm not, and I think that's the best way to go," Jones said. "That's all I got, right now."
Jones then wondered where one of the team doctors was, behind him, and left for the day.
The Cowboys have numerous injuries along the defensive line. They were missing four players and signed two, Landon Cohen and George Selvie, on Wednesday.
Jones hasn't spoken to reporters since Saturday's news conference to open training camp.
Several events have occurred regarding the Cowboys since Jones' last full chat with reporters: The team is close to a naming rights deal; a slew of injuries, particularly hamstrings, have occurred to the team; and how the Cowboys have performed thus far in camp are some of the things reporters would like to talk to Jones about.

That's why Parcells was able to make a dent in the pall of Jerry stank that has hung over this franchise.
He was a realist. He didn't sit there and hope. He brought in guys he knew had done it before and he basically considered the new guys as shit until they proved it.
Garrett isn't strong enough to overcome this idiotic organizational mantra. Hell, I am hard pressed to think of any coach who really can...even Parcells caved in eventually.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett says G Nate Livings will practice Friday

OXNARD, Calif. — One offensive lineman will practice for the first time Friday while another is expected to be sidelined for the foreseeable future, head coach Jason Garrett said.
Left guard Nate Livings will make his training camp debut while right tackle Jermey Parnell is expected to be back in a “couple of weeks,” according to Garrett. Livings was bothered by a foot injury while Parnell is out with a strained hamstring.
Garrett, meanwhile, said he anticipated tight end James Hanna (hamstring) as well as guards Mackenzy Bernadeau (hamstring) and Ron Leary (calf) returning to action next week.
“You just want to be careful of bringing them back too quickly and re-injuring the thing and then you’re back on the shelf for a couple of weeks,” Garrett said. “So we err on the side of a little of caution with those kinds of injuries.”
Garrett said the progress of Parnell, who was sidelined during part of the off-season because of a hamstring injury, has been somewhat stunted by his absence from practice.
“Unfortunate for a young player like that to miss this time, to miss it in the spring and the start of training camp,” he said. “It’s a critical time for him. We’ve just got to get him back as quickly as possible.”

– Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said RT Doug Free has had a “real good start to camp so far.”

OXNARD, Calif. – The most highly anticipated position battle at Cowboys camp fizzled before it really got going.
Jermey Parnell is recovering from a strained hamstring suffered Monday, not pushing Doug Free for the starting job at right tackle. The Cowboys hope Parnell, who didn't get any first-team reps before getting hurt, can come back in a couple of weeks.
“There was going to be a healthy competition over there,” head coach Jason Garrett said, catching himself essentially declaring the competition closed. “There’s gonna be a healthy competition regardless. He’s going to have an opportunity to show what he can do and how he fits into this offensive line.
“Unfortunately for a young player like that, he missed this time. He missed it in the spring and also at the beginning of training camp. It’s critical time for him.”
It’s critical that the Cowboys get better play from this position than they did last season. Free performed so poorly – ranking No. 66 in ProFootballFocus.com’s grades of offensive tackles – that he split time with Parnell late in the season and then agreed to slash his salary in half to $3.5 million.
The Cowboys are optimistic that they can get Free, a 29-year-old who should be in his prime, to resemble the tackle who earned the four-year, $32 million contract extension in the first place. Free performed at a near Pro Bowl level in the latter half of 2008 and 2009.
The key for the 6-foot-6, 325-pound Free: Playing with power.
“You would describe Doug as more of an athletic, finesse tackle,” Garrett said. “He has good length, he has good feet. The big thing for him is part of this game is being physical, being strong. He’s demonstrated that he can do that. He just has to do that on a more consistent basis. He knows that better than anybody else.
“Some of it’s technical, to use your hands. If you have length and you don’t use it, length doesn’t do you any good. If he has a strong punch that can be consistent for him, particularly in the pass game against wide rushers, I think that’s really, really important for him. I think he’s getting better at it. He’s getting more consistent using his hands.”
