I have found that West Virginia people have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to the stereotype of their state.

I have a good friend thats from there and she hates it when I call it the lesser virginia.

It’s actually at a plant where GM parts are made.

I’d be responsible for the parts washing operation for one of the shifts, taking samples of the soaps and chemicals etc., making sure the machines are operating within proper established levels.

I’ll know what the offer is on Tuesday.

Salary or hourly?
 
I have to admit, this is a bit confusing to me.

I guess it’s a base salary with the expectation of 40 hour weeks and then they use whatever the breakdown would be hourly to determine time and a half overtime pay?

I talked to a guy who works there, his base salary is $48k, he made just over $80k with overtime last year.

I’ve been harassing my Mom who has been a salary employ her whole career. Nobody knows, it’s all vague opinions followed up by “every company is different”.

They have always been mocked for the hillbilly ways. But I am from Ohio so could be a neighboring state thing.

Many states put in effect that if a salaried employee isn’t an exempt employee then they have to be paid overtime. That was the solution they came up with.

It all depends on OT and staffing in the facility.

Salary is not all it is cracked up to be. I had hourly associates earning more than managers during COVID. Now there is about a $5K pay gap.

My dad ran his own company most of his life. Sold it off, owns a bunch of farm land and didn't need to work. But he now works as an engineer at a spam factory. I often wonder the same about him. But he did it for the insurance and retirement. He actually really seems to enjoy it. They basically come to him with any mechanical problems they have and give him a lot of leeway.

I don't think it's all that unusual of a thing to do. Hell a lawyer I worked with had his own practice most of his career. He is around 60 and just took a job as a county attorney. Again, retirement and benefits and just the chance to do something a little different. I don't think the adjustment to working for someone after a career of not has been that tough for either.

I've been a salary employee for so long now that I can't even remember what it was like to get paid hourly.
