The Outrage Thread

finally, some common sense. there's an effort afoot to turn "mudshark" into the new n-word. not gonna happen. you know who really frowns on interracial relationships? black women, due to the shortage of eligible black men. no one calls them racist.

I call them racist.

Is this a new term that hasn’t made its way to the West Coast or is it an old term? When white women are beaten/jumped/targeted, is the group spewing this word out? I’ve mainly understood the preferred term is ‘n-lover’ which is obviously not accepted, but doesn’t have that association to daddy revenge.

old term. it's not even banned in the comments sections @ major newspapers or web sites. like you said, it's no more controversial than jungle or yellow fever. some people have a "type" when it comes to dating. so be it.

Yeah, some people have a type, but you don't think that term implies condemnation of white women marrying/dating black men?

Like I said, I think the line is pretty hard to cross, but the term kinda equates black males generally with being underneath her (~rimshot~), which obviously isn't true.

A term like "Jungle fever" or "slumming it" is more situational, and is also lighthearted. But those are more in reference to one-night stands, casual relationships, things that might be seen more as living wildly or rebelliously. On the other hand, if this is a loving, family relationship, there is no need for aspersions.

And like I said, there is a difference between saying that any interracial marriage is per se bad, versus saying that there is a preference to marry within a single race/culture. The latter is understandable, if that's your preference, but denouncing all of the former seems more wrong.

That may not have been what you were going for, but that's why you got the reaction you got, even from people who are decidedly not PC.

mudshark has an extra oomph cuz it’s tied to the daddy revenge thing. Wondering cuz saying ‘he/she’s got jungle fever’ still seems quite accepted in the real world. Mudshark sounded like any other term beforehand. Thx.

Isn't a mudshark an overweight white female who basically dates a black guy because she can't get anything but really ugly white guys? Or maybe that's just what I gleamed from urbandictionary

Like redneck, the term can be used neutrally or as a pejorative. Most white women who date black men are overweight and have little sexual value on the dating market. Then you have the upper-class Kardashians, who upend the paradigm by dating/marrying wealthy black athletes and entertainers. In any event, what people call "racism" is really just "behaviorism." Whites aren't inclined to like Asians more than blacks, but they do. Why? Because Asians BEHAVE. They commit very little crime, work hard, and place a high emphasis on education and family cohesion. Likewise, trailer trash whites have a worse reputation than conventional whites due to their self-destructive behavior (cousin fucking, opioid crisis, KKK crap, etc.)

The issue is, you didn't use the term innocently. Your post was inherently negative, and in turn, racist.

And, Smitty is right. I have said many times that we don't need to make things about race that aren't about race at all. I think it waters the word down, and doesn't help fix things. So, for me to call this racist, it must have been pretty glaring.

I'm confused now...This term only applies to white women? Or Kardashians as well? I know there are some Asians that predominantly date black people as well (both Americans and never-been-to-America but Chinese/Japanese straight in China/Japan).

It's typically used to describe dumpy white women, but it's up to the individual.

I'm white and the person I "insulted" is white, so ...

sigh

they made it about race when they wore those racial-tinged costumes

Your insinuation that she married a black man to "get back at her father" says to me that her father would be angry simply because he was black. This tells me that you also feel she shouldn't have married him, especially when add an "Ugh" to the beginning of your stetement.

Making light of their own situation is not even close to the same as disparaging it, which is what you did.

Yeah, wearing a halloween costume calling attention to the status of your interracial relationship by indicating black, white, and mixed and equating it to coffee ingredients in light hearted jest, isn't the same as condemning interracial relationships in general, or implying that white women who marry black men are inherently slumming or have ulterior motives. Implying that also implies that black men are inferior and that there is something wrong with the white woman.

They "brought race into it" with their costume selection, but in good fun. The term is pretty perjorative as applied in this situation I think.

99.9 % of white fathers would be, no matter how open-minded or progressive they claim to be. even the most left-wing parents in NYC do everything possible to make sure their kids attend a majority-white school and live in a majority-white neighborhood. race realism does not necessarily = racism.

Using the number 99.9% proves to me what you are all about. I would have zero issue with my daughter marrying a black man. Zero. And, I can't speak for other people, but I would guess my opinion is way more common than the opposite.

My problem with the comment isn't the insinuation that fathers don't like it. As I've said before, I don't think there is anything wrong with preferring your daughters or sisters to marry within race/culture.

It's the insinuation that there is something wrong with the woman for choosing a black guy/there is something wrong with the black guy, ie, he doesn't deserve to be with her/there is something inherently wrong with interracial couples.

You may not have been trying to imply that, as I said before, which is why I treaded lightly with "Seems a bit racist." But that's certainly the way it came off.

You mean honest?

feel free to preen and act smug then

If you truly believe that 99.9% of men wouldn't want their daughter to marry a black man, then you are part of the problem. No way could I ever believe that number would be that high in today's day and age.

Agreed.

The photo just happened to feature a black guy. Seeing as how like gravitates to like, most white dads would raise an eyebrow if she brought any minority home. My contention is that it would be more unsettling to bring home a black lad as opposed to an Asian due to the vast black-white culture divide in this country. I have no problem with interracial marriage and find it crazy that it was once banned.

No problem. Wires get crossed sometimes.

Damn, you .1%ers are all alike.

that's because honest people in this day and age are ostracized, excoriated, fired, etc. it pays to shut up.
