The Outrage Thread

It used to be a kid here and there who would tantrum, but a quick clout on the ear, shoe or something would deliver the message. The lack of capital punishment and fear of DSS makes this happen in a lot of single mom homes, but somewhere we lost our way as a society. There is a difference between abuse and physical punishment.
Lack of corporal punishment but yeah.

I pushed for that one and my wife more or less agreed. My kids catch it from time to time and they are way better off for it.

It's worth repeating.

The radicalized and radicalizing colleges in this country are our biggest problem. Maybe by far.
Republicans tend to be against bankruptcy and pro consumer debt issues but one of the best things they could do would be to unite with some factions of the left to make student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Because it would completely upend the bloated University system immediately.

I actually like this idea. I am against forgiving any loans normally, but with a purpose like this I could get behind it.

Why would it hurt the schools though? They aren't the ones loaning the money, are they?

A lot of a college's income comes from the feds and a lot of that money comes from student loan revenue. Also, and more importantly, as soon as a student loan is realized by a school that money pays for all tuition and room and board up front before the student sees any of it. If that coffer dries up because of default loans they would lose a crap ton of money. They also make a lot of money off of pell grants and pther student aid, and that indirectly comes from student loan revenue. It would hurt them a lot if that revenue took a big hit.

But the loan is from the government, right? So the school still gets the tuition up front.

Wouldn't the government be the one who "suffered" if the loans weren't paid back? And of course they never suffer, because their money is never ending.

If the number of student loans granted every year was cut in half because people were defaulting/filing bankruptcy on loans, that would cut the universities revenue down significantly. I had to look it up to see how much a university relies on student loans. Turns out 50-60% of a public university's tuition revenue comes directly from student loans. It would definitely hurt them.

But, I do see your point about the feds just printing more money to just continue to give the same number of student loans even if half of them default and the government loses that money.

That's what I think would happen. There's no real pain for the university itself. (I don't think Biden and the Dems would forgive all that debt if it would significantly hurt one of their institutions.)

If anything it might make things worse because kids would know they could just discharge all that debt. It's like free money.

Oh, it would never happen, but as a hypothetical I like the idea.

The DOC must be half of Little Debbie's sales. It's crazy how much of that shit we have here at PHCF for them to buy on their commissary.

And yeah. The honey buns are a landslide winner for top sales.

I may have grabbed one out of the supply closet a time or two. :unsure
