The Gun Thread

I read back a couple pages and it seemed like people were shitting on Glocks. I could have just misread, though.
I can sound that way for sure. When you are dealing with the popular firearms manufacturers you will always get some hate. I am a Sig fan. To be fair I really like non-polymer framed guns. I carry a P239 DA/SA regularly.

I have owned Sig, Glock, Taurus, Hi point, Springfield, and Browning. I have never had a misfire, or jam in one of my Sigs.

When you hear about mishaps a lot of times a Glock is involved. Again there is a larger potential for this happening as it is one of the largest manufacturers in the world.

Good part for the folks here, though we may have preferences, we wouldn’t call a quality product trash. Just declaring preferences.

understanding that individuals who have carried used and practiced extensively with a weapon would definitely be comfortable with that weapon.

Wife packs a Glock 17 9 mm I like shooting it has very little recoil Built 5 Glock 9 mm Carbines

I’ll poke fun at Glock every now and then because I’m a Sig guy, but I don’t hate them. Glock is well, Glock. The Toyota Camry of pistols. Boring, basic, but highly functional. I hate Beretta because I’ve never had anything but bad experiences with them.

Glock is a good gun. There is a reason that law enforcement likes them. I just prefer SIG.

Same here. I own many Sig pistols, and I’d LOVE to own a Glock 18C. I know there’s a way to modify the 17 into an 18, so I’m interested in finding out more on that.

Glock 17 at work is an issue weapon. Glock 30 and a Glock 21 away from work. I understand Glock's aren't highly thought of here, but I have been carrying them for over 30 years. Old habits are very hard to break.

I would like to buy a military version Colt 1911 some day. Got to fire one of them in boot camp before the military switched over to the Beretta's back in 1985.
Glock is one of my favs. I have about 6 of them in various calibers. My fave is the .357 Sig chambered one.

A good friend of mine used the Glock 33 as his concealed carry weapon for a while. He loves it.

I have reached a point in my life where I need a new hobby and want something that I could potentially make a little bit of money with. I think I have settled on gunsmithing. I am pretty good with my hand. I am not creative. I have built my own AR.

I have the space needed to work with and my wife is on board. Just have to pick up some more tools and start looking for some reclamation projects.

That’s really cool. I thought about doing it, with a focus on custom builds and found out to really make good money, you’ll probably need a CNC machine. A friend of mine is a well known custom rifle builder and him and I have talked extensively about his path in the rifle building and gunsmithing business. He’s done very well and has picked up some military contracts. It’s a bit more difficult than I really imagined.

That’s awesome. I think my interest may lie more in restoration. I am going to play around with some things to see what I enjoy doing and go from there. Doing a lot of research right now. If anyone has info or advice I will gladly listen/ read what you have to say.

Ah, gotcha. So in restorative work you’d need to re-blue or cerakote the metal I’d assume?

That’s what I am thinking. Replace furniture, restore finish, remove marks. I was looking at the Sig Armorers course last night though. I like working on them. The one course covers all of the classic pistols and you can repair them and have them remain under warranty if you have completed the course. They have one for Glock too but seems like more hoops to jump through for the official Glock course.

Let me know if you jump into the cerakote biz. I built my own oven with a repurposed commercial food warmer. Works like a charm!
