Who would even want this?
I think a ton of people would want it. But maybe I'm wrong.
Regardless I don't trust Meta even a little bit.

Exactly. And also exactly to what you were going to say.No way. Its just a daily reminder that they aren't there anymore and to me that would be tor

I 100% realize the potential of AI and how it could help us a lot in our daily lives. I also 100% realize how easily the AI could be manipulated by a programmer with ill intent to achieve an evil result. Like Goldblum said in Jurassic Park, "Just because we can doesn't mean we should".Or AI to not manipulate people with it.
"Just because we can doesn't mean we should".
No way. Its just a daily reminder that they aren't there anymore and to me that would be torture.
I don't know... I understand that argument, and maybe it's correct. But I also know that a lot of powerful people are saying that to gain favor and accelerate government funding for their projects. They're using the old Cold War nuclear weapons argument, but these aren't nuclear weapons. Not only should we, we have to.
If we don't keep up with AI, we're fucked globally. Because China among others definitely won't stop.
You and I just aren’t going to see eye to eye on this one. I think it would massively fuck with a lot of people’s grieving process. No closure, etc. I will respond to your other post when I’m not in my phone.A lot of people will feel that way, sure. A lot of people will feel the opposite though.

I lost both of my parents over 20 years ago and both within 5 years of each other. There are still days that bother me today. Now its not as bad as it was but seeing these things on a daily basis would just drag it out. Maybe my case is different because they were relatively young and my time was cut so short with them.
I dont think a lot of people would see it coming but I bet a lot of those would turn it off.

I don't claim to be some expert on this. But I'm skeptical that most of the big players in this area have our best interests at heart much more than the CCP does. (Though no one is as bad as the CCP.)
There's no doubt in my mind. You can create an army where they are not human so they won't have a danger of losing morale or running, and you don't care if they "die" so you can just throw massive numbers of them at the enemy. And they won't hesitate to kill and they can carry a bunch of heavy equipment and don't need to be fed? And if they get killed you can just make more?
And that's just the tip of iceberg of what an army like that is capable of.
Good luck if you haven't kept up with that.
Totally agree. We absolutely cannot afford to fall behind them. Like the guy in Oppenheimer said, "It's not just a new weapon, it's a new world."
I lost my father the day after Christmas and I would be horrified to do such a thing, but I guess some people might find comfort in it. I definitely wouldn't.
Yep. Hell, you can blow them up and take out whatever you want with it, they can fly, they can march all day without tiring (although maybe need to recharge for a few hours), the possibilities are almost endless of what you can do.
It's enormously important to stay on the cutting edge of this stuff. Just as important as it was and is with nukes.
People are kidding themselves if they think the Chinese aren't.
I think AI could have tremendous medical benefits. Ideas, procedures, cures that we have never been capable of thinking up, AI could potentially solve. There is amazing potential in something that can learn so fast. But it's also playing with fire when talking about military benefits.
If you're talking about robot soldiers, sure. But aren't most of these data centers for and by Meta, Google, Microsoft, etc.? (I know a lot of them are.) And are they going to contribute to making USA soldier-bots?There's no doubt in my mind. Besides, the commies have never been shy about sacrificing their vast populations of people in war. Cheaper for them to just send people into battles to be churned than extremely expensive bots with guns.
I guess I'm more concerned about Big Data using this to turn us into a CCP-style surveillance state.
Oh, I think that is incredibly close already. Way closer than most realize. It is just a minefield of concerns. It's going to be very difficult to navigate. I believe it's a foregone conclusion that eventually we will create an AI that becomes self-aware. Doesn't seem like science fiction anymore.
