Yeah my high school had a smoking area also.

I think it's because a lot of seniors would be 18 and so technically allowed to smoke. I think the legal smoking age back then was 18.

Hell the legal smoking age was 18 when I was a Senior but they sure as shit didn't allow it on school property.

I don't think the law really changed on smoking until like 2019 but I guess it was different from state to state.
