I'm hoping to build a smoke room this winter. I'm going to build it above my office and my shop. I've got my ministry buddies who like to get together and have a stogie and drink.
I've been looking at different ventilation systems and such in the last few weeks. I think I've got a solid plan.

Nice... there's a local bar here that had a smoke room in the back for cigars only.... now I find out they are removing it because people up front complained about the smoke.
Yeah right.... translation... some uptight asshole liberals walked past the room on the way to the shitter and caught the slightest whiff of smoke and then started choking dramatically to draw attention to themselves.

It is kinda funny that the pastors have to hide from the religious people to have a beer and a stogie once per month. Somewhat ironic since all I hear about is how pastors are judging everyone. From the other perspective the experience is the opposite.

I don't know how often you get to Philly but there is a good cigar bar in center city called Hoktz or at least there was a few years ago. I believe there might be one in the suburbs too like in the king of Prussia area or something. I love cigars bit hvent had a chance to smoke on in a few years.

half asleep testing on my phone. at 6am.

Pro and Air are a big difference just because the size factor. My wife has a 15" Pro and I never took to it because it felt clunky and heavy. I never want to put the Air down.

I've been in lay ministry off and on for about 15 years. Minus a few years several years back that I swore I would never get that close to ministry again.
This included planting two churches in 2 states with my pastor and operating in just about every function imaginable in a church setting over the years. Somewhat of a generalist, I guess you could say. Generally speaking you will find me over seeing any department or program at a given time along with being a confidant to the pastor/pastoral staff. Right now I am a youth leader and what they call a Life Coach in the STEPS program (benevolence and helping people get their loves on track). On any given Sunday or Wednesday you could find me MCing or hosting the main service with about 800-1000 people out of the 1500 or so members that we have or occasionally preaching in the main service. I am currently developing the new member curiculum and will be teaching that class which goes for 6 weeks. I'm usually overseeing all of the building and construction projects as well. I could go on and on about other ways that I am involved but that would get really boring.
To answer your question - no I am not a pastor but I am on the pastoral staff, if that makes any sense. I have yet to step forward and say that this is how I will make my living. I feel more comfortable having more time "go" or be outside of the church because I feel that is where the real opportunities are for regular guys like me to have an impact on eachother. When you have the pastor title folks get all weird around you and won't be real. People tend to put up a front with pastors and it is almost impossible to have a real relationship with people. I prefer to build genuine relationships with people and be there for them if they need anything or ask. You'd be surprised at how folks tend to make fun of your beliefs and avoid you until they get into some sort of crisis and you will be the first one that they call. That is totally cool with me though.
Some of the pastoral staff like to get together and chill together about once a month. Usually 3-5 guys just hanging and being dudes. You can't really do that in public because you don't want to be a stumbling block to anyone who may have a problem with alcohol or nicotine. I personally have not touched alcohol in many years but that is not because I have a moral issue with it. I just have a personal conviction because of my past. Maybe at some point I will feel more free to have a drink but for now I am usually just the buyer/facilitator of such wretched behavior. Some church folks have a habit of holding other people, especially pastors, to silly standards that have no solid scriptural basis. For example - alcohol is not Scripturally forbidden but drunkenness is. Or how bout this one - it's cool for the pastoral staff to get together and eat fired chicken twice per week and never exersise, yet having a cigar once per month should preclude you from ministry. Tell me which one will kill you faster. Anyhoo, people can put people in ministry under the microscope and judge very harshly when they have no real way of living those standards themselves. I truly almost belly laff when I hear of people complain about Christians judging them. You have no idea what being judged is like until you have been in ministry. It's almost comical hearing complaints. I guess it is like everything else though, it is a matter of perspective.
