You have a PS4, right? In that case I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. I have a Roku and a PS3. The Roku is fine, but it is missing the guide. You can see what is playing at a given time on every network, but to see back or forward in time you have to select the individual network. The PS3 has the guide but it is SUPER slow if you open it without pausing the TV first. Everything I've read about it says that the PS4 doesn't have that problem though.

I don't have a bad word to say about the picture quality or the availability. Both have been just as good as Cable, and you don't have to worry about it going out when it rains like with Satellite. I tried Sling before I went with Vue and the picture was always stuttering. When big event shows would come on they would be unwatchable since pretty much everyone was trying to stream them at once (Walking Dead, NCAA Tournament, etc). I haven't run into that at all with Vue.

Their DVR is a little confusing at first. If I had to name my top complaint other than the interface on PS3 and Roku that would probably be it. I haven't been able to figure out how to record a single episode of something. If you set a show as a "favorite" then it will record every episode and keep them for 30 days. For most things that isn't a problem I guess. But say you wanted to record the Cowboys game - the only way I've found to do that is to set "NFL Football" as a favorite. Then it records every single football game. You don't have a limit on how many things you can record though so it isn't like it eats into a cap. It is just annoying.

Most of their channels also have this timeline feature that lets you change the channel with a show in progress, but then it offers you the option of starting it from the beginning. You can also often watch shows from the last 6 hours or so of a given network. That's all in addition to the usual on demand stuff.

All in all I love it. I can't imagine going back to satellite at this point. It is definitely worth taking them up on the 7-day free trial and seeing if it works for you

They sell La Madeleine's tomato basil soup in jars at civilized grocery stores (HEB) and it is delicious. Totally changed my opinion on tomato soup

Yea, when looking at all the streaming options out there, it came down to Sling and PS Vue, but your info has helped to clarify which one I should go with.

I also have a Roku, and I also have a PS3 and PS4. I was curious as to what differences, if any, there were with the app on a Roku device and a PS console, and again, you answered that too.

I've always enjoyed DirecTV and like it very much, and their customer service has always treated me well, but it just doesn't make financial sense to pay 140 bucks when I can get all of the same channels for pretty much 100 bucks less.

The only issue I would have is the sound. I have a Roku 2, and it doesn't allow for Digital/DTS sound. I don't know if the Roku 3's have digital audio output, but the Roku 2 doesn't so I'd hate to lose that after spending a pretty penny on my surround sound.

But I will try the 7-day trial starting tonight and I will see if maybe the PS4, which does do digital sound, provides digital surround when watching PS Vue.

The NFL and DirecTV signed an exclusive deal for that.

There was an option to stream the games, but that was still expensive just as it would be if you got it via DirecTV.

But come to think of it, you don't live in a major city, right? If you're far enough away from a major city, you aren't restricted to which ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., you can view, so you actually might be able to watch any major affiliate you want and have access to the games that way.

Do you currently have any cable or satellite at the moment? And if so, which local affiliate does your provider assign you to?

Currently have DirecTV, but am ready to drop them sumbitches.

Getting an indoor antenna to pick up "local" channels, which are 50+ miles away, either Macon or Augusta GA.
 
If you know a college student willing to let you borrow their identity you can sign up for Sunday Ticket streaming for $100 for the season even f you aren't a Directv customer otherwise. They are pretty loose about the verification. You only need School, Name, and Date of Birth.

Ok, so you might fall into that lucky zone, then.

A co-worker of mine has property out in the rural part of TX and he's far enough from the major cities there that DirecTV allows him to watch different ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX affiliates from around the country. This basically allows him to have a free Sunday Ticket. Do you have the option to watch a CBS West by any chance via DirecTV? If not, chances are you won't have that access on PS Vue either, but you can always check by inputting your zip code.
