I generally agree with Ace's assessment. Houston is a great city but I've never heard a person who doesn't have Texas roots say they are planning a vacation to Houston.

Houston is huge in the "foodie" culture. People are literally traveling here for the food. :lol

I don't eat at restaurants much, but I thought that was pretty well-known.

I love that area too. There's something nice about the way the rural stretches outside of Austin turn into the city as you drive in.

I'd much rather visit Austin than Houston. Houston is an armpit. Sweaty and stinky. Only reason I go there is to get to Galveston to board a ship.

Visiting a friend somewhere and planning a trip to a city you consider a destination spot are two totally different things. And Houston isn't a city that people plan vacations for.

Nobody wants to go to Cleveland either, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't visit the city if I had friends or family there, and I bet I'd find some entertaining things to do while there, but you can do that in any major city.

Because I can go to a nice park, check out a museum, or visit an entertainment square somewhere doesn't make it a city with a ton to do, or a place that would allow a local to provide a visitor with an xperience that they would find unique and draw them back again.

That's Houston.

Most everyone here seems to get the point I was making except the two Houstonians in you and Jiggy.

Man, even with hiring movers to move us, I'm fucking wo' out. This place is fantastic inside but needs work on the land. Took down about 200 feet of chain link fence yesterday with about that much more to do today. Country life is hard, man. But, I'm loving every second of it so far.

A buddy of mine bought some land out near lake Livingston and the soil/grass was so dried up and dead in the area where he planned to build the house he had to dig a ton of it out and put in new soil, lay down fertilizer and patches of grass.

You might have a lot of work ahead of you, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

Yeah, I knew going in it would be a lot of work. Hell, I have about 12 useless full grown trees that I'm going to have to cut down and grind their stumps down. It will keep me busy, no doubt. I might not have much time in the next few weeks to even post on this here board. :panic

Yes, and so do millions of others apparently. seriously though, if you go to Houston, especially during late spring and summer, you have to bring at least 3 changes of clothes per day because of the humidity! Who in their right mind finds that enjoyable? :unsure

I sympathize. I'm putting in pipe fence now. Just posts and a top rail but it isn't easy work if you've never done it before. I will offer a word of advice though, if you have work that can be done by someone with a skid steer that knows how to run it, pay them!!!! It may cost $60-75 bucks an hour, but it's worth it. I had 2 burn piles that I was trying to level out with my tractor and bucket. I spent at least 20 hours on one of them and it only kinda looked ok. My next door neighbor was having some work done and I asked the guy with the skid steer to drill my post holes for me for fencing. He also leveled out both piles for me really nicely. In about an hour!!!!!!!!!!!! Watching him work that thing was amazing.
