Test...

You can probably get a membership somewhere for the winter season for less than the cost of a treadmill.

Treadmills suck. For a mile or two it's not so bad but when I tried longer distances my feet started to hurt from the machine.

I can drive to the gym on base too, but I'd much rather just pop into my garage when I want to do cardio...which I generally do twice a day. I only paid 200 for my elliptical and definitely have gotten my money's worth. Now I just need to get a deal like that for a treadmill.

Of course, but you can't run outside right now. The cold is not terrible, but the footing is horrid.

Not sure why your feet hurt worse on a treadmill anyways though, far more cushion that running on flat ground. You sound soft.

You're missing a golden opportunity to do a Rocky IV style training montage. Talk about being soft.

I want to see a video of him climbing to the top of a big snow bank and screaming "HOSTILE!" "HOSTIIIIIIIIIILE!!"

My triglycerides are way high, too. Are you just taking Niacin for it, or something else?

No medicine, man. I just went on a 30 day complete diet and lifestyle change, and my results came back great. :towel

Here are my numbers in comparison to today in just 30 days of eating healthy and exercising my ass off (Before and after from left to right):

Total Chol mg/dl: 235/198 (Low Risk is 200 and below, High Risk is 240 and above)

HDL Chol: 40/71 (Low Risk is above 60, High Risk is below 35)

Cardiac Risk Ratio: 5.8/2.8 (Low Risk is 4.0 and below, High Risk is 6.0 and above)

LDL Chol: 127/118 (Low Risk is 100 and below, High Risk is 160 and above)

Triglycerides: 339/71 :towel (Low Risk is 150 and below, High Risk is 200 and above)

BMI: 25.5/22.5

As you can see, I made great improvement across the board. While I can go back to eating fuller meals now, I still need to be a lot more mindful of my overall eating habits so that I don't go back into the danger zone.

As an aside, we are fucking getting old when the test thread turns to medicine talk. :lol

Yup.....that's exactly what I thought about when I did my screening a month ago - my age. It's a hard reality to face that you're not a kid anymore and you can't just eat and drink whatever you like.

Gotta think about your long-term health now.

This weather is fucking up my exercise routine...I may have to invest in a treadmill. Last week I got in 73 miles, now I am stuck on my elliptical in the garage.

I think I should be able to find a used one, but I hate those narrow treadmills, so the ones with a wider path cost more.

Yup, I hate the fricking treadmill too but I had to jog on one last night since it was 34 degrees with high winds last night.

I will probably just need to join a gym so I can at least do natural jogging on an inside track.

Oh, Iamtdg, I have been taking 720mg of Omega 3 Fish Oil everyday which I am going to continue to do.

That helps to lower your cholesterol and helps with your triglycerides as well.

34 degrees, eh? Poosay.

Test you insensitive bunch, I only have an hour before I have to leave for a meeting!

TEST NOW!!!

Some people are predisposed to cholesterol and triglyceride problems and it has nothing to do with good exercise or diet. The liver is the culprit. Everyone needs to make this determination before they dismiss medication. I would be in my grave today if a doctor had not taken the time to make that determination for me. I suffered two heart attacks before the age of 54 before someone decided maybe there was a problem with my system.

Yea, the doctor told my father that he naturally produces cholesterol so I'm hoping that's not going to happen to me. The good news is that my dad's medication has really worked and his numbers are good all around now.

In my case, it was pretty clear that my eating habits were the main reasons because I really went on this run of just eating really bad.

My dad kilt over at 41 from a heart attack.

Maybe I should look into seeing the doc, eh?

41? Wow.....that's way too young to go, and it's much earlier than you would expect someone to pass from something like a heart attack.

But yea, I think you definitely should go get checked out to be safe.

congrats.

shit i'm more worried now as i'm near 300

As stupid as this line of thinking is, I think the weight gain would've been acceptable for me. I would do what I've always done when I gain a few pounds which is to go on a temporary diet, lose a few pounds, then go right back to eating the same way. But it was the health concerns that really got me this time. I'm 34 now and I need to start thinking about how what I'm doing at this point in my life will affect my health later on.

Seeing those awful numbers scared the hell out of me, and while I'll cheat every once and a while and have a burger here or a cheesesteak there, I will be a lot more careful about what I put in my body going forward as well, and I'm going to be smarter about managing my good to bad food intake ratio.
