Not defensive, just wondering how you have built such an active site.
 
We're not an active site. We have about as much traffic as you guys do.

Difference is, we're not trying to grow. Kinda gave up on it. Message boards are a dying breed because of all the social networking sites/groups/blogs/twitters etc.

Were a small core of maybe 20 "active" posters/bffs.

All I'm saying is, if I'm a noob to your site, I'd probably be turned off by seeing a VIP forum and not having access. Kinda a slap in the face no? Especially with the "special invite only" tag line.

If the intent is to spur noob traffic then at least change that to say "reserves for DCC's most active posters". Or "1000 posts required for entry" etc.

Just ideas.

Dismiss them if you want. Here's the deal though, iamtdg... I've helped build a number of forums from the ground up (cowboyscentral, dallascowboystalk, and dcu) and had respectable "success".

Oh, and I don't think it's a slap in the face for them to see the VIP forum. I do think it's a motivation to post more. What it says in it's subtitle is a different ballgame, but that's not what you started with.

But, I do now know who jonescc is.
 
It seems to be working out fine so far. We have added about 15 new members in the last few months, and our site comes up very close to the first page on Google when you search for Dallas Cowboys message boards. Seems to be working well. But, we aren't wanting to build membership quickly. Quality >>> Quantity. Not sure why I should explain to you, but whatever.

Because I'm not a geologist, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that your placement in google has very very very little to do with the visibility of the VIP forum.

Your non-retarded traffic is next to nothing. And the majority of your "active" posters are morons. Most of your traffic is made up from idiots like cr122, supercobrakai, Jon88, Bob Sacamano, MB4, Dbair, Lazarus Logan, dez for pres, Everlastingxxx, jnday, jeebus etc...

Not much to brag about there.
