Agree with moving on. I wish he'd go away, and have thought that for a while now.

But I will say that this election had nothing to do with Trump for me and plenty of other voters. Nothing. Trump wasn't on the ballot.

The left wants to make it about Trump, because tying candidates to the evil Hitler-like Trump is about all they have. That and abortion.

What I'm saying is, I think there are people who probably wouldn't vote that are voting because they see Trump making speeches recently or they see Trump-backed candidates and they are voting against the GOP just because of that.

I understand, and I didn't explain myself very well. My point is, if voters are gullible enough to believe that, they might believe anything whatsoever, no matter how disconnected from reality it is. Trump could have a widowmaker heart attack tonight and two years from now they could claim that DeSantis is an even worse Trump, even more like Hitler, and if people are dumb enough to believe it, it doesn't matter how false it is.

I'm not sure Trump was that big a factor anyway. He was a big JD Vance supporter from early on, and Vance trounced Ryan. Oz was maybe the best example of a guy who won his primary because of Trump, but he if anything was too middle of the road and squishy for most Pubs, the opposite of a Trump type.

If anything it looks like the blue states got bluer and the red states got redder. I wonder if enough people have already made the Sheik move to make a difference.

Rs need to figure out a way to win that run off. Walker is so terrible though.
I'd love to know what went into them picking Herschel Walker as their senate candidate. The fact that this is likely headed to a runoff shows that if the Republicans had a "normal" politician running against Warnock, they'd probably win that senate seat fairly easily.

I'm guessing because they had two normal types running in 2020 and lost both Senate seats.

But that argument is about as valid as saying this was a vote to save Democracy. Total BS.
If you think for a second a bunch of these whack jobs were not aligning themselves with Trump and vice versa, I don’t know what else to say.

This would be a huge win.

Trump endorses half these guys after they're already certain to win their primary so he looks good. :lol

I hate to tell you but it's really not all about Trump. These candidates would be the same even if he dropped dead. If you don't see that I don't know what else to tell you.

Of course it's not about Trump for you, it's not about Trump or stealing elections or ending democracy or any of that for essentially ALL Republicans. But in an attempt to win Republicans have backed someone who easily motivates the left to turn out.

Yeah they will fear monger any Republican ('Bush is Hitler') but I've said many times Trump is odious enough that he gives his opponents the rope to hang himself with.

I don't really trust Trump anyway, I did not vote for him in 2016. I do not like him or his style at all, I don't like his obvious lack of integrity to some degree (though he's far more honest than the left painted him, he did not collude with Russia, he did not obstruct justice, etc, etc, it's just that he's kind of a jerk). I felt I had to vote for him in 2020, not because he "had to stop the Democrats" but because for who he was, from his background, and with the obstruction he was facing, I thought what he had accomplished and delivered by 2020 was a hair short of miraculous. But it was both a blessing and a curse, because while he didn't give enough of a shit about appearances and so was able to slice through the bureacracy, the fact that he didn't care about appearances at all made him too much of an asshole when he needed to be more insightful and introspective.

His act has worn thin to the point where he will no longer be able to influence down-ballot elections and where he wouldn't be able to accomplish anything if he was elected anyway. Time to move on. It's hurting the Republicans.

Throwing the cultural preference bullshit (namely a national abortion ban) to the side would be a good idea also. Leaving it with states, whatever, but nobody really wants a national ban except these John Birch, Federalist Society ivory tower types.

Again, I agree with the rest of your post about him not being likable, needing to bow out, etc.

However, I still say that the media, social media, silicon valley, Hollywood, etc will/would make DeSantis (or anyone else who isn't a Cheney/Romney type) evil enough to motivate them to turn out. It doesn't seem like it now, but they will. They will be the New Trump, regardless of their not tweeting stupid stuff from the toilet.

I still suspect the abortion fearmongering had more to do with this than Trump anyway.

This will come across as sour grapes, but if this is the best we can do against record high inflation, crime, food and energy shortages, the worst president in the modern era, then I'm worried about 2024. No guarantees even if DeSantis is the nominee.

Absolutely.

I mean, if a big important state like Pennsylvania is really going to elect an addlebrained Marxist who would destroy their own state's economy, then things are really bleak.

The only thing that matters to most voters is party affiliation. There's virtually no crossing over; party and power is everything. Of course, you could say the same thing about GA Republicans and Walker. He's not cognitively-impaired like Fetterman, but we're not sending our best into battle.
