The 1 bill passed, or the support of the squad, etc?

I think the support of the squad is dubious at best. Obviously the left will like anyone who breaks from solidarity on the right but I don't think I'd say they support him.

The 1 bill passed is also disingenuous. The issue isn't that he's not doing anything, it's that he's uncompromising to an extreme fault.

She is exactly right for once. Except the last sentence. We do not want people to have fewer things. We want to people to have more things. We just want them to earn it instead of being given it. That, in a nutshell, is the difference between conservatism and liberalism. They want to be able to control the pie and give it to who they think deserves it. We want the person that works the hardest to get to the pie first to have as much as they please.

The dude is going through it.

Sounds kind of shitty:

This is where it gets rough for conscripts (the majority of lower ranks):

  • Hazing and Abuse: Routine physical beatings (with boots, rifle butts, sticks), forced extreme exercise until collapse, humiliation (eating like dogs, crawling in filth, septic tank punishments), and sexual abuse (including rape in some documented cases). Amnesty International's 2020 report called it "not the exception but the rule," often amounting to torture, and deliberately covered up. Deaths from hazing have occurred (at least 21 reported 2009–2024 per HRW), though rare convictions happen (e.g., trainers jailed in 2025 for one case).
  • Exploitation as Cheap Labor: Many conscripts end up as servants for officers' families/homes, gardeners, clerks, or doing menial tasks instead of real military training. Corruption at higher levels is a common complaint.
  • Low Pay and Conditions: Conscript pay is very low—around 8,000–10,000 THB/month (~$230–290 USD) after basic training, with deductions for food/uniforms. It's barely enough for basics in modern Thailand. Living conditions can be poor; hot climate + outdoor drills + insects/snakes add misery. Boredom is huge in non-combat units (guard duty, patrols, waiting around).
  • Lost Time and Opportunity Cost: 1–2 years out of your early 20s delays career/education. Many see it as wasted time, especially if you're educated or have better prospects. Psychological stress is real; some report long-term mental health effects.
  • Other Risks: Drug use (including meth) is noted in some units. Southern border insurgency involves real danger for some deployments, though most service is garrison-based.
