Quick reaction Draft grades

I am not going bonkers but outside of not addressing WR at all, they did a workmanlike job on paper.

It is kind of irritating. For once they seemed to have stuck to BPA(at least in their eyes) and we are all pissed that they didn’t value the same players we did. Though I agree that they seemed dead set against taking a receiver in this draft so they could prove everyone wrong.

They were going to take McMillan if he was there so I think the board just fell a certain way that led them elsewhere.

True. Just funny that we are always bitching that they draft for need and then when they go BPA we bitch that they didn’t draft for need. I also get that the team does jack all in free agency which adds to the frustration. Just the irony of the process and our part of the fanbase

The WR room is about the only thing they did not address through the whole process. That is what bugs me.

I mean I have no problem with any of the guys we took, so that's an improvement from some years. I still think we slant our board towards certain positions. And it annoys me. It's why we have a million Olineman and DEs. But at the end of the day no one will complain if Booker makes the probowl or EZ gets double digit sacks.

Even James who was probably the player I liked the least still probably went in the round he was meant to go. At least we didn't take him in say the third round (Like Loofa).

I'm also really glad RB was so deep. Most years I'm not sure you could have waited until the fifth and got a guy as talented as Blue or even the seventh and still got Mafah. It makes me feel a lot better that we took two shots at the position.
At the end of the day I'm curious to see how it all fits together. I like the idea of returning to a ground and pound offense like we saw in Dak's rookie year. I'm excited to return to a defense that can cause havoc with its pass rush.

Let's just hope the defense can stop the run and the offense can pass the ball when they have to. Those are still big concerns for me.

They always claim to go BPA. And I think it could be easily argued they did not go BPA with Booker. I have no doubt at the end of the day they had Booker as best available when the pick came up. But that pick was all but predetermined unless we were able to trade down. It's just when they claimed to go BPA in the past, there were more obvious examples of them moving a pet cat up their board.

The problem is that they force themselves into drafting for need because they don't properly address needs in. FA. I'm all for BPA but you have to put yourself into position to do that. When the draft is the only real way they significantly improve the team, you unfortunately force yourself to fill holes in the draft.

That's why people are frustrated despite them drafting somewhat BPA. It's not an inconsistent viewpoint from fans, it's a disjointed effort to improve the team from the front office.

I'm just as concerned with the CBs. There still seems to be some uncertainty there, especially regarding the injuries when the year begins.

Yeah that's kind of a different question for me. If everyone is healthy we may have the most talented corner room in the NFL. But Diggs will likely not be ready by the start of the season. Revel should be ready but how long will it take before his knee feels 100%? Bland is great when he is on the field.

I worry less about corner though if we can harass the shit out of the QB. Which I think we can.

I also think Elam is a really solid player, though Booth, Butler, and Carson are chaff.

Do you think Carson showed any signs of improvement on what was clearly too much too soon for him in 2024?

Carson is a tough one. I liked him when we drafted him. Supposedly had a really good camp. And then looked overwhelmed and got hurt once the season started. Part of me wonders if he had a good camp because he was facing everyone but Lamb on this roster and those guys aren't good. It's a big jump going from covering Tolbert, Brooks and Flournoy to real starting caliber NFL receivers. Hopefully he takes a step up this year.

I don't mind guys like Butler. But Booth is even below that. He was beyond awful.
