Prospects Dallas Has Shown Interest In - 2025

Despite the free agent signings we still seem very interested in LBers. Maybe that's just a perception thing. But maybe it's also just a defensive coordinator who really values LBer play. I'm curious to see if we take a LBer in the first two days. I'd certainly say we have bigger needs and it's a weak LBer class. But I get the feeling we may take one anyway. Despite Dline being where we should really focus on defense.

So is "alignment versatile" what the cool kids are saying now instead of "position flex"?

Definitely not in the first, I meant the second or third.

I mean he'd be your RG. I'd just have to trust the Cowboys if they took him but he wouldn't be my choice. Guy who isn't really talented enough to play OT, guy who I think can get pushed around some playing guard. I'll give him credit for playing a ton of games and staying healthy and on the field. But he just feels kind of meh all around to me. The new O-line coach knows what he wants and if they draft this guy I'll defer to the team. But he kind of feels like a low upside just average starting NFL guard to me.

I guess I value versatility less and mean and nasty powerful more when I'm looking at an interior guy. It's why I love guys like Beebe and Smith. This guy feels more meh to me. I think I'd rather roll with the guys we have than to use a pick in the first 3 rounds on this guy.

I think he's a plug and play starting OG, the LT/RT stuff is just a nice bonus, but the real reason I'd take him is because I think he'd be a starting OG for the next 6-8+ years.

I'm comfortable with Bass, Hoffman and Richards on the interior competing at RG, but I also know in the back of my mind that Tyler may shift out to LT if Guyton doesn't get himself together, so adding a guy who I think could be an immediate starter on the interior is appealing.

The 2nd is probably a toss-up in terms of him being the BPA, but if he makes it to us in the 3rd I think it's a no brainer.

This is what worries me and you'll see this consistently said about him

  • Displays concerning anchor issues against bull rushers, getting walked back into the pocket more frequently than his size would suggest
That isn't what I want in an OG. We can all agree he isn't an OT. I wouldn't hate it in the third because like you said, I think he will be a functional NFL starter. But I would hate it in the second. And frankly compared to getting Beebe in the third last year, I'd still be disappointed. But I think that guy was a steal.

If I'm playing in the offensive line market the guy who may intrigue me the most is Mbow. Which is weird because I usually like the bigger more powerful guys. But I at least think he possesses elite feet. He just doesn't have the arm length to stay at OT. I'd much rather be patient and take a guy like Connor Colby on day three through. Was a big part of Iowa's run game this year. Booker, Zabel and Jackson I skipped over because I don't think they will be available. But if they fall at all throw my hat in the ring on one of those guys.

That's a weird weakness for a big ass Samoan. Makes me think it could be technique related and fixable.

I mean I agree in terms of the Samoan part. Not often you see those guys being knocked for getting pushed around. But it's very concerning to me.

If I am taking what amounts to an OG in the 2nd, it is Booker. Now we all know they love them some position flex, so they may over value the guy.

If Booker is there he'd be a complete no-brainer, but based on everything I've seen he's going in the first or maybe within the first few picks of the 2nd.

They do value flex which is very annoying to me. You value flex but then you won't actually move a guy. Tyler Smith, flex, but they won't move him from LG no matter what seems to happen at LT. Beebe is going to be your stud center despite all the flex.

So I guess what I'm saying is who gives a shit about flex when you're taking a guy who you expect to be a high end starter at a particular position. Booker goes to RG and don't worry about him playing anywhere else. They value the flex but in reality they never actually use it unless you're talking about a backup player. And you sure as hell shouldn't be drafting a backup Olineman in the first 3 rounds.

Yeah I really like Zabel for example but I expect him to go in the first.

Booker could fall though. I see him going in the first but these "subpar" athletes at guard tend to fall sometimes.
